Read what parents are saying about Great Hearts Academies - Glendale PrepTeachers truly care about their students. The students are respectful and talented. Some families could be more engaged but the overall climate at the school is productive.
Posted by a teacher on 10/10/2023This school has worked to make itself more open to both students and families alike in order to foster a stronger learning environment. While each person will come away with their own opinion about the quality of the experience that they have had at this institution, I think it provides a solid and rigorous academic environment for students who want to enrich themselves in lasting culturally significant works, so while the school does not offer everything for everyone, it does aim at providing a solid liberal arts education in a modern world which seems to undervalue the role of thinking. The school has attempted to expand their mental health offerings by hiring more counselors and by establishing clearer channels for students who need assistance, so while the school is not perfect, it is improving.

Posted by a community member on 5/21/2023Glendale Prep is not a school of character or integrity. My child has been in the Great Hearts system since kindergarten. I expected transitioning to middle school and Glendale Prep would have some challenges. I never imagined how horrible my child would be treated by the staff (not students). At the beginning of this school year for 6th grade I alerted administration that my child was experiencing difficulty with living in two homes of divorced parents which affected his overall ability to perform at school. I requested multiple times that my child see the school counselor only to be ignored. My child experienced horrible bullying by his Latin teacher. The teacher took unauthorized pictures of his agenda, berated him in front of an entire class of students, and made him write, "back straight" 20 times on a piece of paper. My child was given an infraction for not having his top button of his shirt buttoned, not wearing a belt, or being late to school. As the infractions added up, he was expected to randomly serve detention for all the "offenses". It is my opinion that detention for these types of infractions is unreasonable especially since many were out of my control. I have tried to email the teachers regarding my child's social and emotional needs only to be told, "Life is hard". Yes, life may be hard but it does not have to be hard at school. My child's attendance was great until his other home environment and school environment became equally toxic. When I met with the headmaster he told me that I was mad for his "teachers loving my child". This is not love. The expectations of homework is 2-3 hours a night. If your child is a middle of the road or average child this is not the place of them. This school only knows how to teach those with special needs, 504s, or highly excelling. They do not know how to teach the average child. Glendale Prep took a child who was excited to learn and essentially made him despise school. Administration and staff will not work with parents of two homes. They will make assumptions and make your child's learning experience less than what would be expected of the Great Hearts Network. Stay far away from this place unless your child comes from a two parent home and you will consistently give money (cash) to the teachers and to the Community Investment Fund.

Discipline to keep students accountable is suboptimal. They will lie, cheat and steal to protect themselves, student well-being is a low priority for “Sierra Dirty” IMO. Should have been a sign to us when two other families on our street alone pulled their kids out to attend another school.Parent Review4mo ago - Joy Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a dedicated individual with a PhD in Criminology and an adjunct professor at Arizona State University, education holds a place of paramount importance in my life. Ensuring that my 6-year-old son receives a proper education is a commitment I take VERY seriously! If I could assign more than five stars, I would wholeheartedly do so for BMSA. This marks the third consecutive year my son has attended the school, currently flourishing in Kindergarten. In comparison to esteemed private and charter schools, BMSA offers a curriculum that not only aligns with the best but also keeps my son on a remarkable academic trajectory. (Yes, I have researched and compared!)The communication with the school staff is nothing short of exemplary. They respond promptly, often within hours, addressing any questions or concerns I may have. The level of transparency they maintain is truly commendable. Updates on my son's day and progress are consistently provided during his pickup. What holds the most significance for me is witnessing my son's genuine love for attending school. He radiates happiness, eagerly recounting his daily lessons and activities. The meticulously planned and purposeful lessons enrich his educational journey. The inclusive environment, where students of varying ages share classrooms and recess time, has provided my son with invaluable experiences. He not only helps younger children but also looks up to older ones, learning from their example. This has been valuable for him, being an only child. In addition to the exceptional social and academic atmosphere, BMSA offers a host of amenities that make it stand out. Nutritious hot meals, after-school events, class pets, and clubs contribute to a well-rounded experience. The recently revamped playground adds an element of fun and adventure to the school's environment.Above all, BMSA epitomizes a secure, top-tier, and nurturing environment for children. While the Montessori method may appear unconventional to some parents, it has undeniably nurtured a well-rounded, intelligent, and joyful young boy in my son. BMSA is not just a school; it is a beacon of excellence in education. It has enriched my son's life in immeasurable ways, fostering not only his intellect but also his character. I wholeheartedly recommend BMSA to any parent seeking the very best for their child's education.Parent Review7mo ago - Sunrise Montessori School - North Campus

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers do not have patience. They are easily frustrated with students- especially ones with learning disabilities. No science or social studies is taught whatsoever. Learning is withheld as a form of ‘motivation’. The school brags about students being ahead once they finish but only students who are naturally intrinsically motivated. Students are shown a lesson and dismissed to complete a worksheet on their own with peer support. Most children would rather socialize than do work (as would adults too!) the children are expected to have the discipline of adults and put down and punished when they don’t. Recess will get taken away constantly and then they’re punished for bad behavior. The students can’t bring treats but staff will eat fast food and treats in front of them. Teachers don’t even stay due to the toxic environment. My children left this school relieved yet profoundly behind.Parent Review7mo ago - Truly Free School
