School is fine for neurotypical students. Most of the teachers are very good. School is a disaster for dyslexic students, when so little would be required to remedy the situation. This a complaint about the administration, not the teachers, who do their best but are not allowed to rock the boat.

The competency levels of the school administration are very low. The great school rating as a key performance indicator reflects a decline in the quality of education from 10/10 to 8/10 now.

We've been at SMASH for 2 years now. This is a wonderfully nurturing creative environment for children. My child is extremely happy. Teachers and principal are top notch. They are on the cutting edge of education, offering so many extra tools to parents and children. For example, last week there was a lecture on decreasing stress in children. No bullies as the staff and principal are proactive and true problem solvers. Very involved parents. Overall caring community and very down to earth. Huge emphasis on reading, writing, creativity, multi aged classrooms, art, story telling, drama, and project based learning. The kids here love going to school. Even without the traditional learning and homework, my child is still at or above grade level. Learning is fun and creative at SMASH, not "stuck in your desk stifling." True "out of the box" education. That all said, getting into SMASH is very difficult and it is like winning the lottery as it has the same philosophy and teaching model as top west LA private alternative schools, many of which we toured.

Grant is an excellent school and really feels like a community. Principal Furer sets the right positive tone for the kids and families and I hear the teachers think he is great. Like any school, you can get a mediocre teacher; we had one among the 6 different teachers our 2 kids have had. But overall our kids love it, and we’ve felt so welcomed by this community.

We are new to the School and our daughter. is attending Kindergarten. We originally enrolled her in Private School due to the same concerns the parent below reported. We heard about the New Principal and also the change in environment because. of. the two schools coming together. We had the opportunity to meet and talk to the New Principal and he truly is and has been amazing for our School. He has really shown tremendous leadership and support to the kids , teachers and parents. He's creating a positive culture! This School's energy is completely different from what I experienced during the Open House earlier this year. This is not PDMSS anymore, this is now MALIBU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL and it has tremendous heart and so many. great programs being lead by the teachers. My daughter is already identifying sight words and working. out word math problems. She loves her teacher and her environment. The School is only as good as the community it's in. PARENTS, TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATION. If all can work together there is no stopping greatness. I am experiencing that first hand and for rude children, I have not experienced that. What I can say is as parents it's our job to raise our kids with respect, humility and empathy.
