3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have witnessed more focus on the wrong concerns, I do not put blame on the teachers. They work harder than ever to keep up with everything they are held responsible for. I point to the directors / administrators who handle the budgets. We need expansion of thought with abilites to remain current in today's world stage. Technologies, science and language are all important. Not building a new weight room for the football team? Send the teachers to seminars to network and explore new avenues of growth for the students! Not just granting "the prom comitte" a day "off site" to research for the dance party. Very misdirected...Parent Review8y ago - Monroe Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThey claim to teach our kids. But most of the time, it's a who knows who community. Needs a better principal than the current one that won't tell kids that they can just leave if they don't like his rules. Superintendent won't call you back! Superintendents husband is the high school athletic director. The school brings in group home kids to start problems. They turn their head away from bullying issues. Give out 200.50 tickets to kids for scippping class. Oh, and even when your kid didn't do anything, they're still going to get in school suspension. (Popping bags in lunch room). But other than that, it's ok.Parent Review8y ago - Northside Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI had to send my son here because he has pervasive developmental disorder. When I sent him I thought everything was set. Until yesterday I received a letter saying I owed money to the school! He is on free lunch as well as on badgercare. Even without that why is a school charging fees? Not only that but they send homework home for a kindergartner which is silly. Parents just end up doing it themselves! How do you expect a five year old, especially one with PDD and ADHD, to sit and do homework?Parent Review13y ago - Parkside Elementary School

What Locals Say about Monroe

"Monroe doesn’t have a “sketchy” neighborhood or street. Overall it’s very safe and feels secure. At most, there might be a rowdy kid on a dirt bike."
- Shong C.

"Everything’s within a 5 minute drive or less. Great local places to shop and dine at. Parks are great for walking and relaxing."

"Good school, nice parks. Police are very friendly and the community is great. Most people who have lived here, have lived here their whole lives."

"All the dogs in the area are friendly, most are larger and bark quite often which can be frustrating but they are all super nice and friendly when you actually interact with them. And the owners are usually decent about bringing their dogs in at night if they start to bark"

"The streets leading into the High School parking lot are very busy with high school drivers. It’s especially busy around football season and students tend to speed out of the parking lot."
- Kara B.

"There is lots of grass and low traffic. Everybody is friendly towards dogs and some people have treats ready"

"I have lived in Monroe for 9 years and grow to love it more each day. The community is made up of friendly people, many family- oriented activities, great shops and restaurants, parks and the downtown square is incredible. We have our well known Cheese Days celebration every 2 years and it is non-stop fun with music, great food, carnival rides a 2-hour parade and SO much more!! Monroe is a nice place to visit and a better place to live. We are close to Madison, Janesville and Rockford, IL., which makes for an easy commute for work or play."
