8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is ok, but there are a lot of bad qualities. Last year, we had multiple actual lockdowns because of people entering our campus without permission, so I would say that it is kind of not the safest place, but is safe in some situations. Our school got on the news a few times because there have been a couple of fights, and another reason was that the staff has caught kids in the bathrooms doing things such as vaping. On the other hand, we have had at least 3 fights, but no lockdowns or anything along the lines of that. One reason I think the Special ed programs are ok is that many kids in our school have 504 plans, and they are ignored. That sucks because many people need help with focusing, but that is neglected by some teachers. One thing that many students and teachers are concerned about is the hole of debt that is getting deeper and deeper. We have had fundraisers and ways to get more money, but we still haven't been able to fix the problem. Another problem we have is that sometimes the boys of our school mess around in the bathrooms and then they get closed, meaning you most likely will have to walk halfway across the school just to use the bathroom. The problem with that is we have a limit for how long you can go out of the classroom to use the bathroom. The expectation is that you take 5 minutes max, but when the bathrooms near you are closed, you have to spend at least 5 minutes walking to the bathroom, 5 minutes to use the bathroom, and then 5 minutes back. That means you are out of the class for a very long time, and that means your teacher is mad at you for being out for a while, and you also missed 15 minutes of learning that you may have needed for a lesson. Another design flaw of our bathrooms is that the faucet is too close part of the sink, so while you're washing your hands, you're getting your hands dirty again. Teachers tell you to have a growth mindset, but it is almost physically impossible to when you are exposed to our school environment, AKA one of the worst school environments you could imagine. One final thing about our school. The wifi here is so spotty, that it's like playing roulette with working wifi. So, as you can see, Kellogg needs some work on a lot of major and minor issues.Student Review3w ago - Lake Forest Park Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI agree with other reviewers as to the issue of the principal and favoritism, especially in regards to teachers and complaints. I had volunteered hundreds of hours for 4 years, but brought an issue to a teacher as to her allowing another parent to control and discipline her class. I was promptly told that I couldn't come back to volunteer as it wasn't good for my child. I took the issue to the principal as this teacher was not only allowing a parent to take total control of the class, but also bring a baby to class the entire day and the students had to be quiet for "nap time" for the baby. The teacher was also making fun of one student on an IEP, stating that he wasn't special education and it was a joke for him to have the IEP. All these issues really bothered me as a parent, especially when me not allowing to volunteer was clearly retaliatory. After emailing the principal, I got a phone call that evening (she didn't want anything in writing as to avoid legal ramifications) where she apologized and said she would take recouse with the teacher. I had confided in her also during that phone call (after many years pf volunteering, I thought she was a friend) that we were having issues with our landlord and would likely be displaced (for the first time in our lives). Two days after this phone call, I received notification that we we needed to provide proof of residency, which we did not have as we were moving in with a friend temporarily while finding safer housing, and the principal was told this very clearly. By that weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, the school had unenrolled my daughter, even though we had only moved about 200 feet away (the school was notified of this) and we were considered homeless during that time as well as still living within the district boundaries. This was the most difficult time of my and my children's lives, and to have a school that should have been there for her, both emotionally and legally, made the choice to not only turn their backs on a family that was very active within the school community, but displaced a young child needing as much stability as possible. Legal action should have been taken, but being very low income at the time (also mentioned by other parents as a clear issue of discrimination within this district), the school was aware that our situation was out of our control as well as how amenable I had always been. This was a cruelness that no one deserves, especially a 7 year old.Parent Review1y ago - Shorecrest High School

"Decent selection of restaurants and entertainment. Centrally located to other Seattle neighborhoods, although being so close to the arena and relying on Mercer St to get to I5 means most weekends you just end up staying home rather than deal with traffic. "

"Moved to this area not too long ago, there’s not a lot of light at night, but streets are pretty walkable, also neighbors are friendly. I do see some homeless from time to time."

"Not that great for long pretty walks in my opinion, plenty of car filled streets. Can be better walking areas somewhere else."
