This is a great high school. My cousin went here a while back and now works in the school district and only has had good things to say. One thing that's great and rare is the incredible diversity. There is also a new building as of a couple years ago. Auburn "takes care of its own" as one neighbor told me when I moved in- we look out for each other and vote to fund education properly. The teachers and staff on up to the Auburn School District Superintendent are caring and hold kids to a high standard. There are a lot of great programs offered and I'm not sure why Great Schools is giving this school a low rating because the school is excellent academically as well, perhaps the demographics are working against the school? If you are considering this area and school I'd recommend it. The only thing that should worry you are lahars from Mt. Rainier ;)

Literally go to any other school. I had to go to the superintendent to get a response from the principal about what happened to my son at school. He came home with a bloody nose one day and a concussion the next. Kids here are doing terrible when it comes to testing. They do not follow IEPs at all and do not respond to emails regarding the matter. If I had the opportunity, I would pull my son from this school. A few teachers take a slight interest in the kids that's what the one star is for, but it is far and few between. Hopefully this change in staff will improve the school but I doubt it. When principal jumps ship you know it's going down.

Transferred my student from Gildo Rey to Pioneer due to dissatisfaction with both teacher and administrative staff at Gildo Rey. We are 6 Months into the school year and I am blown away. My child was struggling, over a full grade behind on reading at the start of the year, but is now hovering right below a reading level a grade above her current grade. Her math is way up as well but one of the best changes has been her desire to go to school. Last year we had so many days (3+ weekly) where it was a fight to get her to go to school to the point she developed stomach issues from the stress. This year she has nearly perfect attendance an is just so excited to go each day. The school does a great job of giving personal attention and feed back, we get frequent calls and emails home telling us of her progress and how proud and excited they are for her which is just always great to hear. This school has also started a sort of emotional intelligence class as a weekly elective type thing, similar to PE or music class, such a cool idea and really helpful at this age. Last thing- I have another daughter the same age who attends a Dieringer school, probably the most sought after district around- and this Pioneer has been eclipsing them on all fronts.
