4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son graduated from here in 2022 and 2 of my kids graduated in 2019 and 2020. There are a few excellent teachers, however the leadership and communication from the Principal is subpar. Keep in mind, my kids were not troublesome. One of my children received special services from the county and she came to me to make me aware that the specific special needs teacher she was working with was making unauthorized recordings of the students behavior and using it for a side business without permission. When I brought to the Principal's attention she was painstakingly slow to investigate and react and instead left it up to my child and I to provide the burden of proof before she finally investigated and discovered we were telling the truth. Another incident is when my son went to her with a legitimate issue that a teacher advised him to go to her about, she completely dismissed him! He came home and made me aware and it wasn't until I had to reach out to her that she actually took him seriously. Eventually she apologized to him with the excuse of her being so busy that she didn't realize she was being dismissive. There have been other experiences, which have formed my opinions as well, but there simply isn't enough time or space to elaborate.Parent Review1y ago - Spring Run Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son started on his educational journey at Spring Run in Kindergarten. Given the disruptions caused by COVID-19 and his attendance of pre-K at home during this period, we were aware he faced challenges catching up. Despite our repeated efforts to engage with the faculty for support, the personalized teaching assistance we sought was not provided. In a meeting with his 1st-grade teacher, it was emphasized that no further interventions could be made unless he underwent an evaluation for an IEP. In response, we requested supplementary work for him to complete at home, expecting a moderate workload. Instead, we were inundated with an overwhelming volume of daily assignments, necessitating weekend sessions to keep up. Faced with this circumstance, we reluctantly proceeded with the IEP evaluation, only to discover the test results did not support the need for such a program. Throughout numerous discussions, it was acknowledged that our son lagged behind, yet no provisions were in place to facilitate his catch-up. We were informed that Chesterfield County standards necessitated his ability to independently pass the SOL, despite his below-average reading skills and the absence of adequate support. This educational struggle deeply impacted my son's emotional well-being at the tender age of 6. His sense of inadequacy and frustration is reflected in his statements about feeling unintelligent and incapable of handling the work. Observing a continuation of these challenges as he entered 2nd grade, my husband and I made the difficult decision to withdraw him from Spring Run after the second-quarter assessments. As a parent with two older children who have successfully navigated their educational journeys, this has been an unparalleled and distressing experience. School should be an environment that fosters learning and enjoyment, not a place where a child is left behind due to administrative constraints or statistical requirements. While I am familiar with the school setting through my older children's experiences, the lack of support and understanding for my younger child's needs at Spring Run has been disappointing. I believe that no child should face such hurdles in an educational environment, especially when the necessary support and attention can make a significant difference.Parent Review4mo ago - Check out schools near 13924 Collington Mews.
