The historic Culpeper Power and Water Works site is comprised of 2 separate structures, the power plant having been dedicated in July 1934 and the Water Works in 1946. The buildings have been renovated into 22 market-rate rental apartments studio and one-bedroom "loft-style" residences now known as Culpeper Lofts. The parking and grounds have also been revamped. The historic features were preserved and highlighted as this project utilized federal and state historic rehabilitation tax credits, so the redevelopment design was overseen by both the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and the federal National Park Service.

"I moved to Culpeper from Northern Virginia back in 2001 when Culpeper was still considered a small town, and the I was visited by the welcome wagon when I moved in to my house. After living in Culpeper for 10 years, I moved to Rappahannock county for 7&1/2 yrs, now due to life changes that are out of my control I am moving back to Culpeper and it's definitely grown up from the small town it once was, and I won't be excepting the welcome wagon this time around but it's certainly not Fairfax or Gainesville. Not yet anyway."

"The worst thing I have to say about living in Culpeper VA is that to make a good living you will have to commute. At any given time it seems like 1/4 of the population is commuting to the Pentagon or a good business in Prince William, Fairfax, Arlington or DC. It is a nice enough place to live that most of us will still want to live here even if we are commuting. Very nice neighbors, very safe. Good place to retire...but also a good, safe place to raise children. Good private schools close by if you don't like the public schools. Town Council is sort of an antique and sometimes struggles with new ideas, but they listen and adapt MOST of the time. Town government vs. County government is sometimes a minor problem...they do not agree about much."

"This is one of the best streets in downtown Culpeper. It's quiet, kid-friendly, and the 300 block has very little traffic. You can walk to downtown and Yowell Meadow Park. There are huge, shady trees, and most of the homes are in great condition."
