3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNixon High School has a horrid academic curriculum. For example, the AP U.S. History Class is foregoing their final exam and is opting instead to decorate a cereal box in lieu of an examination to test the students' knowledge of the subject. In my opinion, this is very juvenile on behalf of the teacher, and not contributive in the least to an advanced placement course. Nixon High also has an assistant principal who is extremely rude and combative to parents who question the school's methodology. In particular, the student registration and course scheduling system that Nixon High School uses is antiquated at best, and puts an unnecessary burden on both parents and students. Waiting in line for hours to register for high school classes has practically been eliminated in other areas of the nation, but this school district is clinging to doing things the same way they always have, which results in students not being placed into the classes they need in order to graduate, and instead being placed into electives, or wherever there is a space available. In conclusion, Nixon High is an overall poor quality school, not at all suitable to students who show any type of want for a diverse education or an accellerated course of study.Parent Review7y ago - Pierce Elementary School

"I have lived here since 2017 and I absolutely love this neighborhood. It's quite, friendly, safe and very child friendly. There is never any crime and you hardly ever hear emergency sirens. Every single neighbor has been wonderful and polite except one. "

"Best place to live in DC. It’s a beautiful neighborhood that is urban but not downtown. It’s all about the park and trail, tons of restaurants, things to do, grocery stores, markets, bar. Has its own metro in easy walking distance and a trail that connect you to the east side of the city. "

"NoMa Bid has been creating a huge sense of community in Eckington and NoMa. For one they keep the area so clean and you always see their workers sweeping the sidewalks, changing trashing, maintenance at the dog park. And then there’s the events, most at the A.T. Park and the MBTrail. Movie in the park, farmers market, holiday events like pumpkin patch/contest, and of course the mural walls festival. The trail and park have beautiful murals everywhere and each year local artist renew most of them. (NoMa in Color). Also the dog parks is a big vibe in the area, Eckington Dog Park is the best in the city, but there are 4 in the area. Also, Bouldering Project is a cool bouldering and fitness gym. Theres tons of grocery, restaurants, bars and beer gardens, etc. it’s surround by Union Market, Brookland, Shaw, H Street… all connect my the MBT (bike/walk trail) and NoMa/Gallaudet Metro Station (subway). "20 minutes to town, one can go through downtown 25 mph or there are other roads through the countryside that have no lights and higher speed limits to get to the other end of town. 30 min to Carson City. One hour to Reno"

"Dogs that can’t be controlled by the owners. It puts you and your dog at risk because as you can imagine it’s larger dogs causing issues. Also people who may not live in your building walk dogs over in your area and leave feces."
