4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI want to say upfront, this district doesn’t believe in homework. Assignments are given daily and completed in class. Anything not completed can be finished at home and turned in the following day. My kids rarely brought work home. To me this was huge, especially during football season. We have a very strong football program under Coach Young. They check the kids grades daily and follow up with them on missing assignments. Teachers and staff are great and everyone knows you and your kids. My only complaint is the overuse of referrals and ISS in the middle school. They gave in school suspension to a kid that ate a chip from someone else’s lunch. Overall it keeps the kids in line, but the punishment can be a bit much.Parent Review5mo ago - Lake Dallas Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall pretty great. The ELA Honors teacher and the science teacher are amazing. They're full of kindness and know how to do their job very well.A few things however, is the internal biases some lunch teachers have. (if you're a black person you're more of a threat, if they're crying they're immediately the victim, etc.) and the transphobia. There's multiple students (obviously not gonna name them lol) but worst of all, even the teachers are like that. Especially the PE coaches and band teachers.Following that topic, as a trans student here, I do not feel welcomed nor safe. The PE coach does not understand that I am a trans boy, but rather thinks I'm a male crossdresser. (Normally, that would be a compliment but god. You're a teacher. Please just think for two seconds). Also, I'm not allowed in the male lockerrooms (Obviously.) And I keep getting either physically attacked (Shoving into doors, getting my head banged on lockers, etc.) or mentally attacked (Getting slurs thrown at me, manipulating me into thinking I was staring at someone, etc). The teachers haven't caught on yet.Lastly, the equipment is pretty good as far as a school goes. The track is nice, and they even have badminton rackets! The water fountains definitely could be better, but they always suck anyways. In conclusion, it's just an average school. I wouldn't take a minority kid here, but c'mon. It's one of the best options in the area. (Betty Myers is kinda goated.) Just give it a shot.Student Review4mo ago - Shady Shores Elementary School

"Close location to my job and easy road access to surrounding shopping. The highway is close enough, but not so close that you hear traffic. The roads are well kept and neighborhood mowing and maintenance is handled on a seasonal basis."

"Swisher and 35 often gets jammed by traffic during rush hour. A lot of people take this exit. I live 5 mins from my job so it’s not a big deal, and I get off work before rush hour. "

"Lake Dallas is a hidden Gem, some of it looks a little warn down and some of the streets need to be replaced but the people are great. Most people have lived here for 10 plus years and it feels very safe. "

"Lake dallas is a small town right in the center of many bigger, growing towns. It still has that small-town feel where the whole town gets together for holidays like 4th of July etc, the police will stop and pet your dog, the few restaurants/bars we have are quaint and local owned, there's a hoppin' VFW, and there is little after-hours noise disruption. Many perks of small town living enjoyed from the very center of the metroplex. 30 minutes or less from all points. Denton, Frisco, Lewisville, Little Elm, etc, etc. Only thing is that it's SUCH an old school type small town that they still smoke in the bars here."
