8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIt is certainly an above average school, but recently issues with weapons and drugs. Even though the teachers really do try to teach, a lot of students don’t listen to teachers or do their work. Yet somehow the kids are still passing their tests.Other Review1y ago - Northside High School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNot bad, I like most of the teachers. Some of the staff is a little unprofessional but, they can be dealt with. Overall, I think the school is great but, majority of the students that go here don't really want to learn or don't care about their education (like most kids anywhere)...They're too worried about whose dating who and when is the next fight. If my peers really made an effort to learn and actually do their work, i'm more than confident that all these stats would improve drastically. All we need is for the student to be focused on their work and we'll bet better.Student Review6y ago - Roosevelt Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSo here's how we ended up at Roosevelt, a school we'd never heard of: Went through HISD's complicated magnet process and picked only 3 Vanguard schools (not knowing that my son would easily qualify Vanguard). Obviously, we got none of our schools. On the second round, we found Roosevelt (why was it so hidden during the first round)?, visited the three-year-old campus building—toured its brand new facilities, modern computer labs, excellent, well-stocked and amenity-filled library—and, finally, talked to Kindergarten Vanguard teacher Ms. Trayers. A year later, I can only say, we can't have made a better choice. Ms. Trayers is an encouraging teacher who challenges her students. My son has emerged from Kindergarten reading at an advanced level, doing mental math, and able to discuss civil rights, debate philosophy, and write a haiku. He knows what onomatopoeia is, he's deeply interested in the scientific process, and he's a coder. Yes, coding for Kindergartners is an option for Roosevelt, and Ms. Trayers comes in early for interested students (and stays late for a book club). Every teacher I've met at Roosevelt has been deeply dedicated to their students. The school is respectful to their kids and encourages parent participation. Don't go by demographic dramatization at sites like this—Roosevelt is proof of that. Diversity is an incredible thing. The area around the school needs improvement—Stokes needs vegetation management and a clean up around Airline, but remember, this is a neighborhood that's on the periphery of 6-10 and may look different in another five years. Look at the school, the teachers, the calibre of education. It's pretty stellar!Parent Review7y ago - Check out schools near 416 Frisco St.

"This neighborhood is very transitional and there are areas of new construction with other areas that still need restoring. The location is great for access to all the major freeways. There are no deals but property values are increasing. "

"People love to walk their dogs in the Greater Heights. I never had to get a Dog because I could just love everyone else’s. The Heights is the most sought out area for a reason! It’s absolutely perfect. Being a transplant from Alabama, I’m no stranger to small towns, but honestly it’s like a big city with a small town vibe! The Heights is one of Houston’s greatest treasures. I’m excited to see how the up-an-coming Independent Heights will fair. I personally think it’s potential is limitless, if the LGBTQ Community got together and bought property as a group, then it could be the New Montrose. Just food for thought, either way it’s going to be epic! I am currently looking to buy 4 lots in the Independent Heights. Making 3 duplexes with garage apartments. Trying to keep the architecture up to date with the style. American Town Houses. New Orleans style inspired. "

"In all reality this is the HOOD. Juan Flores was brutally murdered here on his way home from school and hits murderer has yet to be brought to justice. You've got a homeless shelter, a handful of halfway houses for newly released criminals of different kinds, drug dealers and what comes with that (prostitution, theft, squatting, gang violence in and out of the schools), oh and its walking distance from 3 jailhouses & a federal prison, it's a dangerous place. Gentrification will only take care of one of those issues. "
