4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy experience at HBMS has been pretty bitter-sweet. Last year I went to f2f during the pandemic and I had an all-around great time. Mostly. Most of my teachers were pretty great and I had classes that were fun and engaging. The only class that was disengaging and disheartening to be in was math. Because of the low student participation I didn’t actually remember anything. There are some adults are very approachable and relatable that you can honestly just talk to, and are very understanding but are still able to keep things under control. One great example is the Kickstart instructor and the campus GT advisory teacher. There are other adults though, who are very frustrating to work with. I was a little tentative of this school at first, but after 6th I was kind of looking forward to the next year. Then the new sixth graders happened. I’m not trying to be offensive, because some 6th graders are pretty solid people, but I honestly don’t know what some of them have come off of. There are incidents of them stealing things, pepper spraying kids, and some teachers who have experienced things that made them want to quit on the spot. It’s not just the students but the way some authorization handles the issues. I personally feel like the punishments ensued aren’t tactical. I understand taking away certain privileges, but when you are still at a place where privileges aren’t fully back a whole semester into the school year, then obviously something isn’t working. But you can’t get strict all of the sudden too. There are many fights in this school, and many accounts that post them. Very recently the school made an announcement that they will begin to deal severely with kids caught in fights, along with the people caught reporting and posting them. Makes sense, right? It gets better. They also asked teachers to report any students who were late to class for them to be sent to the office. That is somewhat reasonable considering you have 5 minute passing periods…except there are teachers who will keep there students 3 or even 5 minutes late without sending them off with a hall pass and students may have to go across the whole school to get to there next classes. One can’t just go from lenient to super strict in a matter of minutes. Student’s find it comical and don’t respect decisions like that. But amongst all the chaos and commotion, there are great relationships to be made and hilarious tales to tell at future work dinners, and that’s what I love about HBMS. :)Student Review2y ago - George Bush High School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is the actual worst school probably in the whole state of Texas. I’m not sure why it’s still up. Bullying is so prevalent, most teachers hate their jobs and will take it out on you, and even the principal is completely ruthless and unprofessional. I caught her physically harassing a student in front of an entire crowd, all because of a misunderstanding. I was a personal victim of her unfair treatment as well. If you find good teachers in this school and good peers, consider yourself lucky because it doesn’t happen quite often. I have a lot to say, but what’s the point. there is literally nothing good about this school. I can’t think of a single thing, and you probably think I’m joking but I’m literally not. Besides the few staff members and teachers that are actually cool and friendly, the rest are a bunch of people who hate their lives and will not hesitate to take it out on you. I never knew my full potential until I got out of this place. It seriously ruins your perception of the world. It’s not until college that I realized how friendly, civilized, respectful, AND hygienic people can be. This school is the most low vibrational place I’ve ever went to. Unfortunately, I can’t undo the trauma it has caused me. Thankfully I am out but like I said, this place changed me as a person (for the absolute worst.) Of course, everyone’s experience will be different but I will tel you that not one person in that building will tell you George Bush High School is a generally good quality school. If you have other options, please don’t go to this one.Other Review6mo ago - Check out schools near 16011 Soma Dr.
