3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCurrently, I am a sophomore right now, and South has become increasingly worse as time has gone on. We have metal detectors at the front doors of both main and the Alex building that you have to go through before school starts, which has quickly proved to be an extremely inefficient way of security. It’s time consuming, and it isn’t really doing much. It has made students miss most of their first period, and admin has told staff to mark students absent or tardy because the metal detectors aren’t an excuse. The student body here is pretty bad. There are some good kids, but a good amount of students don’t take school seriously. The school is extremely outdated. You can’t get service in some hallways due to the way the building is designed, and South is in desperate need of a renovation. We have an early college program that is kind of faulty. I can’t speak on it too much because I’m not in it, but from what I’ve heard, the administration running it is unhelpful, unnecessarily strict, and the early college program has been deteriorating for a while. It’s even cause students to drop out of early college. Teachers here are also a hit or miss. A lot of teachers here don’t care and/or they’re just here for a paycheck, which stunts student growth. This school is also hyper focused on sports, and doesn’t do much to credit the other extracurricular programs and activities that students work hard for. Funding mostly goes to sports as well, leaving students and the staff running their department to pay out of pocket. Overall, I realize some of what I’ve said is honestly a district thing, and there’s nothing I can do as a student to speak out. But I will say, if you’re considering coming to this school, it’s not completely horrible. But just be prepared for what you’re walking into.Student Review2mo ago - Harry S Truman Middle School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageDickinson is a great school ! My oldest one (boy) just graduate from Dickinson on June 2013. He attends Reagan Middle School right now. My second child (girl) is in 3rd grade at Dickinson & she is in Gifted & Talented program right now. My youngest one (boy) is just entering Kindergarten at Dickinson this year & he is smart like his sister too. From my experience of having my 3 kids attending Dickinson Elementary, I would say it was a great experience for me & my kids. I disagree with the comment before me. Our family is Asian but we feel welcome over there. I made friends with anybody, doesn't matter if they are Spanish, Asian, White or Black. The teachers & the staff are so nice & they care about the students. My oldest one was always struggle at school because he has ADHD but the teacher & the school did whatever they can to help my son so he can do well at school. They provide a tutoring after school for those who needs extra attention like my son. All my kids are happy to attend Dickinson. They all learn well at Dickinson. Overall, The Principal, The Vice Principal, The Teachers, The Staff, The Parents, and all the students are awesome...We love Dickinson!!Parent Review10y ago - Check out schools near 1627 Summertree Ln.

"I moved to Texas in 2015 and my first neighborhood was in Grand Prairie. I still live in GP now five years later. It is a quiet city for the most part and the neighborhoods I’ve lived in so far are decent and safe also. "

"There really are not any events in the neighborhood to make it special. The neighbors beyond a nod are half wave acknowledge each other"
