8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageYou are stupid if you have the opportunity to go to Highland Park and you either do not take it, or take it for granted. Choosing a high school is a black-and-white decision. Highland Park has the best test scores, graduation rates, and matriculation names in Dallas, and completely for free. If you choose a mediocre private school, or even a private school with a great reputation, you are sacrificing a free education that comes with a normal and safe high school experience. For those who complain of stress, I ask you to deal with the products of your own choices silently. Nobody forced you to take all APs. You will not spontaneously combust if you take a regular class, so please stop scaring people away from Highland Park because you signed up for more than you can handle. For those who complain of the culture, please think about the real reason you don't fit in. Getting teased a few times is just a part of being in high school. You need to take a look at the fact that there has never been a genuine attack or fight at HP. Nobody is getting beat up for dressing different; you just have never been to a bad high school. Also, racist stuff can happen everywhere, and Highland Park is no exception, but racist attacks are absolutely unheard of at HP. You are unlikely to have any problems as a minority at HP. I also would love to add that the majority of people who complain of a toxic culture of rich white kids are, ironically, rich white kids. To be more specific, rich white kids with a victim complex. This school is also exceptionally safe. I have never felt unsafe at school, or walking to school. As far as security events, stuff happens every now and then, but never anything major. There was a bomb scare in 2013 and the school and police handled it very well. HP security guards check student id's at each door and require badges for every non-student in the building. If there were to ever be a security emergency, there are always police at school. The UP Police station is 2-3 minutes away, and there are 4 DPD stations within 20 minutes (yes, I checked).Other Review2y ago - Highland Park Middle School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school supports everybody and is extremely good academically. Classes are harder than normal and the school offers a variety of electives and advanced courses, with many classes on STEM Such as Intro to Engineering, Digital Media, etc. The school is predominantly white but discrimination is far and in between. The teachers work very hard and truly engage students.Student Review3mo ago - University Park Elementary School

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageExcellent Elementary School and in our experience has been the best in HPISD (had experience at two others in the district. Lots of opportunities to volunteer and get to know other families in the district. They are also very open to newbies in the neighborhood. I can't say enough about all the fantastic teachers they have - with lots of tenure:). Coach Kenyon, Mrs. Vahrenkamp, Mrs. Barrow, and Mrs. Broadhurst - all amazing teachers. Their Principal is also the best... she spends more time with the kids than she does in her office. My kids absolutely LOVE UP!!! I can't imagine a private school that is better in Dallas:)Parent Review1y ago - Mcculloch Intermediate School

"Every couple months a crew comes and tears up the intersection at one end of my block for a few months. Eventually they fix it, but a couple months later they come back. This has been happening for two years now. "

"If you don’t like walking your dog on a leash to you’ll fit right in around here. It’s not great because people like hauling it down side streets to avoid the constant construction that slows down the larger streets around here. But at least if your dog gets hit by a car it will probably die quickly thanks to the speed that people are driving. "

"You will 70% step on poop. Living in an apartment complex, there are plenty of owners who will allow their dog to defecate, pee and throw up in elevators and stairs. Irresponsible owners and sometimes untamed/unsocialized dogs. I would beware of coyotes and keep an eye out for scraps left by homeless people near the transit. "
