6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is HORRIBLE for students who cannot pass. They push them to back of the class, forget about them and label them as repeated students. After they are labeled the teachers refuse top help them pass and just use them as an example for other students. Please do not send your child here. The staff and faculty do not want to help students who have trouble passing classes. Do send your child here if they are over achievers because the staff and faculty will love them ONLY.Other Review12y ago - Oliveira Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIt has some good clubs and activities but recently they have been pulling people out of them, because they apparently need to catch up with the core classes, but If the club teachers Can do there job in forty five minutes shouldn’t the core classes be held to the same standard? After all that’s why we have tutorial right? I’ve seen first hand how this school just obliterated the choir program, and is making us do prompts in band I feel like this is wrong because if there just pulling people out of electives then by the time you know it next year no electives. Which I think is not fair to the students or the club teachers.Other Review1y ago - Brownsville Early College High School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBefore anything, check your legal status, and how will that affect you by the time you will graduate. They are not really forthcoming over that and will try their hardest to keep you in their school. What is better option, a normal high school or a small one? Be sure to be aware of what is better for the student so their experience can be the best!Student Review4y ago - Daniel Breeden Elementary School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI thought with this being a 9/10 school it would be great. There are pros and cons with this school. 1) All students are bunched up together regardless of ability. I'm not sure why they force kids to be GT, I was never given a solid answer why my son was placed in a GT (he was never in GT before) class when he was struggling. They stress both the parent and child out trying to get kids up to par when they shouldn't even be on that level. They (3rd grade teacher and Asst Principal) suggested my son had ADHD, etc. Funny stuff actually as I diagnosed the teacher has having OCD.My only conclusion was that this was either an experiment to see if all leveled kids can become GT if given the opportunity (sort of a "you are all smart" experiment) OR there was some type of incentive with either after-school turoting bonus (those who struggle will obviously need help). Either way, took my child out of that class and he soared to Honor Roll in a regular class. On a different note, when trying to withdraw my Kinder child (Kinder being optional in the stae of Texas) we were told (somewhat harassed) that they need to remain in school, yadda yadda, by the Principal. She even went so far to state it was the law. Unless a new mandatory Kinder law just passed we corrected her and she quickly changed tones and just let us withdraw our child. Could it be our child was just a $$ being lost upon withdrawal that the Principal cared about? On a positive note, the school does its best to encourage kids to remain in school, and if they get sick they should attend either way to get some awesome prizes for perfect attendance. The lines to wait/pickup are impersonal as any other newer schools in Brownsville. You line up to drop/pick up in your car. No teacher communication unless you stay at home all day and have the time to visit the teachers during working hours. Email is optional as well.Overall, its a public school, they do try hard to cheerlead both the parents and children to have great attendance/scores. STAAR testing is priority and it shows as in any other public school. I recommend it if you are ready to be HEAVILY involved.Parent Review7y ago - Check out schools near 2839 Regency.
