2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe spend money on equipment, astro turf, and how much to those neon signs cost? Why didn't they invest money for more math, science, and english teachers? Now was purchasing neon signs and astro turf and the track field really in the best entrance of the students? As a tax payer I don't want my taxes going up failing Texas requirements that they loose sports are great but students who understand math, science, and can read/write. Big spring ISD has not passed state test requirements since 2008. We need to analyze the teachers, principals. Principals, and superintendent to see if they have a new plan and why are they still holding their positions? Our schools and children need every advantage we can offer them so one day they can be doctors, lawyers, even president. Those are long term plans. Athletics has a shelf life one child may do good but what about the rest of the children. Can the athletes read. Do math and science so when they can no longer be jocks they can get a good Job because we care enough to take time and teach them fundamentals. 5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have 3 children who attend this school, 1st,3rd & 5th and I am very dissatisfied with this school. They have attended for two years, the homework load is UNBELIEVABLE! My 1st grader comes home with 1-2 hrs of homework a day, most of it standardized testing related. Ironically enough they have not learned hardly anything (especially if it doesn't pertain to the staar test),and as a matter of fact my 5th grader failed staar last year due to the backwards teaching methods and very little one on one time. My oldest daughter is currently doing expanded notation although she has not been taught place value. How can a child possibly learn in this manner? By the way we come from a smaller district 45 minutes away and had no difficulties in that district. I do NOT recommend this school!Parent Review10y ago - Big Spring J High School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI worked at this school. The principal honestly does not care about the success of the students. She has political goals and that is all that is important to her. She fires or moves staff, teachers, and aides that do not bend to her every whim. I enjoyed working with the students at the school. Some are very poor but they have a great attitude. The teachers are incredible, unfortunately they suffer under the current principal and this effects their classrooms. I would not recommend this school if you have a junior high age. I do not recommend that you put your child in this school. There are smaller districts in the area that have better schools.Other Review10y ago - Check out schools near 108 Jonesboro Rd.
