2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son attended in 2017-2020 and I am still connected through friends whose children attend. I am so grateful to Principal Dr. Kellye Kirkpatrick for her dedication to the school, and thankful that she has remained in this position long enough to provide consistency & stability. To be honest, a middle school in an urban area with 80% of the kids identified as economically disadvantaged is going to have challenges. A lot of problems walk in the door that the teachers and administration have no control over. This is life, and I know that my kid (who does not come from an economically disadvantaged home) will be navigating this as part of his education. I have seen kids at Monnig excel at math, reading, sports, music (band, orchestra, choir & piano), dance, and theater. I've known many who moved on to AHHS with advanced credits, prepared to succeed in high school and beyond. There are many ways kids thrive here. Not all do. There are many teachers who relate well to the kids, hold them accountable, and help them succeed. Not all do. It's uneven. However, Monnig has strong parental involvement & committed and consistent administrative leadership. I believe it can get better, and I know this is a school where parents with initiative & ideas will be supported in their efforts to improve the school.Parent Review1y ago - Ridglea Hills Elementary School

"I have lived here since 2017 and I absolutely love this neighborhood. It's quite, friendly, safe and very child friendly. There is never any crime and you hardly ever hear emergency sirens. Every single neighbor has been wonderful and polite except one. "

"Best place to live in DC. It’s a beautiful neighborhood that is urban but not downtown. It’s all about the park and trail, tons of restaurants, things to do, grocery stores, markets, bar. Has its own metro in easy walking distance and a trail that connect you to the east side of the city. "

"NoMa Bid has been creating a huge sense of community in Eckington and NoMa. For one they keep the area so clean and you always see their workers sweeping the sidewalks, changing trashing, maintenance at the dog park. And then there’s the events, most at the A.T. Park and the MBTrail. Movie in the park, farmers market, holiday events like pumpkin patch/contest, and of course the mural walls festival. The trail and park have beautiful murals everywhere and each year local artist renew most of them. (NoMa in Color). Also the dog parks is a big vibe in the area, Eckington Dog Park is the best in the city, but there are 4 in the area. Also, Bouldering Project is a cool bouldering and fitness gym. Theres tons of grocery, restaurants, bars and beer gardens, etc. it’s surround by Union Market, Brookland, Shaw, H Street… all connect my the MBT (bike/walk trail) and NoMa/Gallaudet Metro Station (subway). "20 minutes to town, one can go through downtown 25 mph or there are other roads through the countryside that have no lights and higher speed limits to get to the other end of town. 30 min to Carson City. One hour to Reno"
