There were at least four different principals during that time. He was threatened by a gang. He was fearful and refused to return. We removed him mid year.On the plus side, his math teacher recognized and promoted his talent.Parent Review1y ago - Mccallum High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy first son graduated from McCallum in 2022. While there are some challenges at McCallum, it is a good school that offers students a range of different opportunities. Our son enjoyed the business courses. He also took advantage of many different opportunities for advanced learning, including AP and community college classes. My second son is currently a 10th grader at McCallum. He has enjoyed French and engineering, in addition to core classes. My younger children look forward to the theater and dance programs at McCallum, which are among the best in the state.Parent Review1y ago - Ridgetop Elementary School

"hyde park is an idyllic austin neighborhood, so much character and charm, wish it was a bit more affordable but it's obvious as to why the prices are high, it's a great place to live. "

"quiet, close to downtown and university, lots of restaurants around, markets and heb close by, good community, people walk around with the dogs at night"

"There's not any place to take your dog, but there's plenty of room on side streets for walking them on a leash. Most everyone has yards with some space for their pets. Most the pets here are friendly so having a mean type of guard dog would be out of place, but it would be ok if it stayed in the yard. Just know that it will bark all the time because there's lots of foot traffic."

"Hyde Park has Central Park and other smaller neighborhood parks for dogs."

"Hyde Park is the heart of Austin, in my opinion. The streets are beautiful, lined with old trees and charming houses. The energy is great because it is a mix of UT students, young professionals, and families. It is in a central location with easily access to all of Austin."

"This neighborhood is really unique because it's an old part of Austin with really funky small homes. Each house has character, which you don't find in areas with newer construction. There are lots of restaurants and shops here that give it a really cool laid-back vibe."

"It's an old Austin neighborhood with a lot of Austin charm. I love that it is within walking distance to great Austin institutions like Quack's, Vino Vino, and Mothers. I love swimming at Shipe pool during the summer, and I also love the wine events at Vino VIno, like Bubble Fest. Mondo gallery has great exhibits and cool opening-night events."

"Many people who live here are UT professors. The commute to UT could be a bike ride or a walk or a bus ride. Driving isn't worth it, since parking is such a hassle on campus. For those who work downtown, the commute is ridiculously easy. No need to even get on the highway."

"This neighborhood is family friendly however some streets have small or no sidewalks. But we do have tennis courts and a basketball court. Hyde Park feeds into decent schools, but most parents try to get their kids into magnet schools. Overall this neighborhood is very safe."
