7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhile the principal is competent and highly responsive, there is a culture of toxic positivity from the top that trickles down to almost everyone. If you question how things are done or why, you are often passive aggressively shamed or gaslighted. Some teachers are stellar, others are average, and some are pretty terrible. Your experience each year largely depends on the teacher you are assigned to. The school is very old and AISD chose not to include it in the 2022 bond due to "equity" (after Doss and Casis were already redone with previous bond money). Due to the age, the community spaces are too small, there are rodents present, and the safety is questionable at best. There is a ton of parent support via both time and money, and that allows the school to offer opportunities and resources that would otherwise not be available at an AISD school.Parent Review3mo ago - Lamar Middle School

There were at least four different principals during that time. He was threatened by a gang. He was fearful and refused to return. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy first son graduated from McCallum in 2022. While there are some challenges at McCallum, it is a good school that offers students a range of different opportunities. Our son enjoyed the business courses. He also took advantage of many different opportunities for advanced learning, including AP and community college classes. My second son is currently a 10th grader at McCallum. He has enjoyed French and engineering, in addition to core classes. "Norman Rockwell could have drawn a more family oriented neighborhood. Close enough to everywhere put tucked away from the hectic traffic. Ramsey Park is so close and I love it. "

"Rosedale is just south of Brentwood, and this area is really booming, with tons of new restaurants and shops and places to be. Burnet Road in Rosedale has just exploded over the last few years. It's a fun, hip part of town that attracts young families and has lots to do."

"It's near the center of town and has a variety of socioeconomic groups represented. Most of the houses in the area were built in the '40s, '50s, and '60s, and many have been drastically altered from their original form, featuring additions that cover much of the lots, as well as second stories.There are a lot of shops and restaurants within easy driving or even walking distance, and the neighborhood park is large enough to accommodate a lot of people."

"We always see dogs in the neighborhood. There are plenty of walkable streets, and many of the restaurants and bars are pet-friendly (on the patios) as well."

"The neighborhood is dog-friendly but expects dogs to be on a leash most of the time. There are receptacles and poop bags available, especially in the park area, and dog owners are expected to pick up after their animals."

"This is a family friendly neighborhood with lots of young children in the area. Rosedale Park is a great place to meet other families with children. It's close to good schools and has plenty of access to shopping and restaurants. Rosedale Park has ample room for lots of activities, and there's a swimming pool, two tennis courts, and basketball hoops. Playscape has been recently renovated and is lots of fun for children and families."

"It's about a 15—20 minute straight shot to downtown, even in traffic. Frequent buses also make public transportation a feasible option, but will add time to your commute."

"Excellent access to downtown via Lamar Blvd. The dedicated Park Land that is Pease Park ensures no future development from, roughly 15th through to 35th. The Shoal Creek Trail begins @ 38th and can be followed to the Lake and points beyond."
