5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son was bullied so badly that we left the school. The counselor and assistant principal were supportive, but nothing was ever done. Never heard one word from the principal, even though things got pretty serious. It broke my heart to see him in such emotional pain and the damage it has done. I feel for every child who is bullied because it is something they have to deal with long after the actually bullying has stopped.Parent Review1y ago - Zilker Elementary School

"Lovely neighborhood. Urban yet really homey still. There is some crime but that’s expected anywhere around here. "
- Trulia User
- Resident

"There is plenty of green space to walk your dog, and most people are good about cleaning up after their pets. Traffic isn’t too heavy, so it’s comfortable to walk with a dog on most sidewalks."
- Trulia User
- Resident
- 3y ago
"There are a lot of well-maintained parks and green spaces for walking and playing with dogs. There aren’t many fenced dog parks, but there’s enough room for play time on a longer leash!"
- Anissa S.
- Resident
- 3y ago
"Work from home but neighborhood is centrally located and easily accessible to major high ways. There seems be less traffic moving south to north compared to traffic moving north to south on MoPac expressway and I-35"
- Kathleen M.
- Resident

"Nice quiet neighborhoods with wide streets, shady trees for walking a dog. Also close to lots of bars and restaurants "
- Marissa B.

"Good access to public transportation; although I do not use it, it seems many others do! A little traffic-y but nothing abnormal to typical downtown Austin areas. "
- Tori M.

"Very dog and family friendly. I love living at Bell south Lamar. There are many walkable restaurants and bars and my dog loves it. "
- Eric O.

"Commute to downtown is 7-9 min. Commute to work is about 15-25 minutes. It’s about 12 min. to anywhere I would like to be."

"Trying to leave the area due to the homeless population and the lose and feel of a safe place. It used to be unique with the older homes but as of now they are all being torn down. It’s not the same "
- Nathan S.

"Work from home. Uber’s are easy downtown. It’s a good neighborhood for young professionals, but probably not families. "
- Nicole.fikes

"Locally owned restaurants, coffee shops and retail stores. Eclectic feel. Great schools. Close to downtown but spots feel removed from the city. "
- Deborah B.

"Friendly neighborhood. I don’t have children so I’m not quite sure what the standards are. But the neighbors are great and look out for each other. "

"Terrible. With no traffic my commute to downtown is about 10min. Naturally, I work during typical business hours which means my commute is about an hour. Traffic is terrible everywhere in this city. It’s pretty amazing. "

"I haven't encountered any dog parks, but there are plenty of vets, pet stores, doggie day cares, and places to walk them!"
- Solomon B.

"Dog owners would love it. Zilker is close, and there are a ton of people with dogs."
- Ali W.
- Resident

"There are dogs everywhere! Most restaurants and bars have patios and permit dogs on the premises. They even provide water bowls for you to use. The only negative I can think of was when my apartment complex did DNA testing on all the dogs in the complex. On the upside, they did it to try to get people to clean up after their pets."

"South Lamar is cool but established. We have great restaurants, fun bars, and cool shops, but we also have great schools unlike some of the trendier neighborhoods."
- Solomon B.

"It's close to everything, and the people are cool and friendly. There's lots of stuff to do and great shopping as well."
- Ali W.

"South Lamar has the feel of Austin and is just close enough to all the craziness without being in it every day. The neighborhood has everything you could possibly need. I have 4 grocery stores, 3 gyms, a Target, and countless restaurants, doctor's offices, and groomers within walking distance. Not to mention some closer-to-home nightlife."
- Ali W.

"Most drives in Austin take 10—20 minutes. That being said, hundreds of people move here every day, and traffic is on the rise. During peak morning and evening times, a 10-minute drive can sometimes be 20—60 minutes longer. Good thing MoPac added an express lane!"
- Nicole B.

"There can be heavy traffic on SoLa, and often the lanes are closed."

"We're zoned for Zilker, one of the best elementary schools in AISD! And we can walk to most places we want to go: my son's preschool, the movie theater, restaurants, the coffee shop."

"This area is awesome. 78704 is the heart beat of South Austin. You are close to all the cool shopping on South Lamar & Congress. Easy access to Hwy 71/290 (Ben White Blvd - Loop 360), restaurants, Central Market, movie theaters, and the new Radio coffee house! It takes about 10 minutes to get downtown on a weekday morning work commute coming down Lamar to Barton Springs, and then South 1st (Guadalupe) into downtown. There you'll find Ladybird lake, the renown hike and bike trail, 6th Street, and all the rest of wonderful downtown Austin. Just take Lamar to downtown, Hwy 71 to the hill country (Fredericksburg ...), or just enjoy 78704 and the vibrancy yet relaxed atmosphere of a wonderful part of Austin! "
