5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe will not be keeping our daughter in this school next year, and there is not a chance on the face of this planet we would ever consider putting our son in this school when he reaches the age to go into prek. This has been hands down the worst experience we have ever had with a school in the 16 years I have been a mom. There is next to NO communication from the school administrators unless it has something to do with money. We have not been informed of benchmark tests, staar exams, we were never informed by a teacher when our daughter was being bullied by a girl in her class, or when a boy threatened physical violence against her. Because the school had received such a low score the year before, the school was staffed with a new administration, who has decided instead of making sure their students have the tools to pass the staar, they are instead dialing back what they are requiring the students to do, no homework, no spelling test. At this rate we will be very surprised if our daughter, and her classmates will be able to make passing marks on the staar test.Parent Review7y ago - Carter J High School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a current 8th grader at Carter, I can definitely say that I wouldn't pick any other school over it. There are a lot of wonderful staff at Carter, and although the new principal is despised by most students you can quickly overlook her and find all the amazing opportunities offered. They have amazing pap teachers ( Mrs.Seaberry & Mrs.Cooley love u both) who do so much for their students' success. Carters AVID and STEM programs are highly recommended and to anyone interested in art should check out the art club. Carter is also a decently racially diverse place and LGBTQ+ friendly school. I don't ever recall any negative opinions coming from a teacher in my 2 years of attending. And please rest assured that there are a lot of security protocols in place to help and protect you or your child. It also a very disabled child-friendly school. Even during the time I had just gone through a leg injury all of the staff were understanding. (allowing me to leave class 5 mins earlier to not accidentally get hurt by the crowd during the passing period, use the elevator, leave school early so that I could rest, giving me an entire week to recover, etc.) The teachers also took a lot of extra lengths to make sure make up work wasn't hell for me and took time out of their days to make sure I was caught up with everyone else and not left behind. I'm extremely grateful for them. Overall, Carter's a good school and I would recommend not to believe all the fake rumors and only speak about it once you have experienced the school for yourself.Student Review5y ago - Sam Houston High School

"This neighborhood has definitely gotten worse. There is a lot of theft, robberies and shootings. Neighborhood “kids” hang out all times unsupervised. Definitely not a “good neighborhood” anymore. There are so many vacancies everyone is trying to get out. Too many low income families reside here now"
