North Hamilton is a school that definitely pushes their students to succeed. They have a very effective RTI program that focuses its' energy on the students' needs. From what I have seen in the classrooms and have heard from the admin, they focus A LOT on test scores. Their main goal within the classroom seems to be getting their scores up so they can beat the other schools in the district. Teaching to the test seems to be one of their strategies to do this. The principal and VP seem to push their teachers to follow EL curriculum as closely as possible. Unfortunately, this means that each day students are given long passages, a worksheet, a page in their workbook and repeat. For math it is the same way, worksheet after worksheet after a lecture. They pay very little attention to science and social studies because "it will not be on TCAP" so they do not feel a need to push it. In my opinion learning is so much more than getting a worksheet and making a good score on a standardized test. There seems to be no fun or exciting things to get the students engaged which is why I rated it the way I did. Apart from the way of learning, the teachers have a way about them that makes it seem very "cliquey". Lots of gossip. Every time a person leaves the room, you can almost guarantee that they will be the next topic of conversation. Very judgmental if the other teachers are not like them or do not do things the way they do. As an outsider coming in, it did not feel very welcoming.

This school can be great at times; however, it is most certainly not a good place for minority students. The discrimination that happens at this school is astonishing. And nothing gets done about it. Only given students slaps on the wrist for blatantly threatening the safety of others and saying racial slurs.

I am a recent Sequoyah High School graduate and I have to say this is the best high school. The teachers are great, the guidance counselor is awesome and so helpful, even down the the nurse being an awesome person and so caring and helpful. I went into Sequoyah because the former principal Mr. Jackson (he retired 2019.) had the inkling that I would be able to bring up my grades and do good at Sequoyah. And I was able to. I went from failing 3 out of I believe 5 of my classes at my old high school my freshman year because the school that I previously went to was just that bad, teachers and student wise to having all A’s and B’s my sophomore year and continued on to get straight A’s my junior and senior year. This school helped me succeed not only as a student but as a human in general. I was taught so many things from the teachers and not just learning material. I was taught kindness, integrity, and other strong foundations for going off into the “adult” world. If you are thinking of sending your child to Sequoyah, please do because it is the best school with the best staff. I love and miss this school very much.

By far, this school is the only way to go in Chattanooga. These students are college ready before they complete their 9th grade, and they are living breathing college from day one. Absolutely no other school on this side of the state comes anywhere near the test scores or graduation rates. And a nice plus - the leadership and staff are a pleasure to work with. They know their stuff and treat our children as if they were theirs. I've looked to relocate with my job to other states, and I can tell you that a program this good is very, very rare indeed. This one school is worth staying here until they graduate and in the U of Tn system for another two years at least.

same as everyone else. There are problems with the high school they don't really teach they just yell at the kids they just have a very boring "do this" and never actually get any learning.

For the 2015-2016 school year I have been extremely pleased with STEM school. The principal and staff members actually want their students to succeed. The class sizes are small, students take ownership of their work and other responsibilities, and the environment is exactly what I wanted for my son.
