6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter has enjoyed being apart of CFHS. She has been able to do AP classes and honor classes that have challenged her in a rewarding way. These classes help get students ready for college level work, so even on her first day of school she has gotten homework or test prep in these classes. She also became apart of the marching band through colorguard which has been a great experience. This school has one of the biggest bands in the county putting them in a 4A class, they travel in and out of state to compete in fieldshows which the kids love. A new winterguard program started in 2021 and has already won a state championship which she has also enjoyed. This school is made for students to get involved. Students love the Friday nights at the football games so much that they have their own designated section in the stands, along with a dress theme each week. Many of their sports teams make the playoffs or championships and althetes get recognized. There is a large variety of school clubs to join even for kids with unique interests. Going to a show choir performance or musical play is like going to a professional show here, highly recommend you see their Christmas show. The kids that get involved seem to thrive here. It is a very large school so the campus is kind of set up like a college where you walk to multiple buildings for your classes. A lot of students are able to take certain electives during the summer, and start taking college classes for half the day senior year. Like any school, sometimes kids get into a fight or have a teacher they don't like. We have yet to have a bad experience with any of the teachers, in fact a few of them are actually alumni. This school uses metal detectors during arrival which we are seeing more in high schools to help with safety. We have never had an issue with the principal. She's firm but nice. If I had to list any cons they would be that the kids don't get to use lockers (something that seems to be happening more and more in high schools), the only dance they have is prom, traffic at the school can be crazy(more of a city issue), and kids don't get to leave for lunch(which I don't mind as a parent with all the crazy traffic, but I do remember how cool it was in high school). So just minor things. All in all we are happy to have chosen this school for our daughter.Parent Review1y ago - River Oaks Elementary School

"I have lived here since 2017 and I absolutely love this neighborhood. It's quite, friendly, safe and very child friendly. There is never any crime and you hardly ever hear emergency sirens. Every single neighbor has been wonderful and polite except one. "

"Best place to live in DC. It’s a beautiful neighborhood that is urban but not downtown. It’s all about the park and trail, tons of restaurants, things to do, grocery stores, markets, bar. Has its own metro in easy walking distance and a trail that connect you to the east side of the city. "

"NoMa Bid has been creating a huge sense of community in Eckington and NoMa. For one they keep the area so clean and you always see their workers sweeping the sidewalks, changing trashing, maintenance at the dog park. And then there’s the events, most at the A.T. Park and the MBTrail. Movie in the park, farmers market, holiday events like pumpkin patch/contest, and of course the mural walls festival. The trail and park have beautiful murals everywhere and each year local artist renew most of them. (NoMa in Color). Also the dog parks is a big vibe in the area, Eckington Dog Park is the best in the city, but there are 4 in the area. Also, Bouldering Project is a cool bouldering and fitness gym. Theres tons of grocery, restaurants, bars and beer gardens, etc. it’s surround by Union Market, Brookland, Shaw, H Street… all connect my the MBT (bike/walk trail) and NoMa/Gallaudet Metro Station (subway). "20 minutes to town, one can go through downtown 25 mph or there are other roads through the countryside that have no lights and higher speed limits to get to the other end of town. 30 min to Carson City. One hour to Reno"
