8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe principal of this school, Tracy Lanese, discriminates. She is a horrible administrator. SC is ranked 42nd in public education and Okatie Elementary does not rank well at all among other SC public elementary schools. I would highly recommend avoiding this school and school district at all costs. In fact, we are moving back to NC as soon as possible just to rid ourselves of this nightmare. The Office for Civil Rights in Washington, D.C. has already been in contact with me after I submitted an 11 page formal complaint with a request for early mediation. "Okatie is a well kept secret. People are catching on, though. We live in a beautiful home right on the marsh. We have deer, foxes, and raccoons in our yard every single day. At high tide, we see DOLPHINS strand feeding and they’re practically in our back yard. Our neighbors are well educated, friendly, and trustworthy. They’re helpful too. We have found our very own paradise here. "

"Not really sure only been here 3 months and are renting until we buy a home. If you are looking to be closer to Bluffton and Hilton Head then Okatie is kind of out of the way."

"There are lots of dog owners and lovers in Okatie. We have wide open spaces, marshes, fields, etc. Dogs are in heaven here. Be mindful of the gators, though. "

"I love Okatie. Wonderful neighbors, a string sense of community and lots of beautiful nature. We see lots of deer, racoons, armadillos and birds. There are dirt roads lined with live oaks draped in Spanish miss. Okatie is a lovey slice of nature between Beaufort and Bluffton."

"Okatie has excellent schools, beautiful land, and trustworthy residents. We have peaceful and respectful people from all over the United States living in tiny Okatie. It’s a treat to have neighbors with experiences from all over the globe. I haven’t met anyone yet who seems pretentious either, even though they easily could be. I can’t say enough about little Okatie. I love it."

"Traffic can be thick but it is a vacation destination. Commute during the week is fine. and our neighborhood couldn't be better."

" There are lots of kids live here and there are also lots of activities for them (organized and none organized). There are swimming pools, bike trails, a Nature ace tee and playground, as well as an equestrian center. It is also very sane here."

"Sun City Hilton Head is the premier active adult community of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Hundreds of clubs and activities, 3 golf courses with a clubhouse and pools, both indoor and outdoor. This is a welcoming community with its own theatre and two restaurants, walking trails in a beautiful natural setting."
