8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is terrible. The change in principals a few years ago lead to a big shift in the school and not in a positive direction. There are many wonderful teachers but way too many are rude, condescending and negative. This is not just opinion, there are facts to back it up. The school is the 2nd worst rated elementary school in Bluffton according to the South Carolina school report cards. Look it up. Nearly half the kids are not meeting expectations and the students themselves rate their school negatively from a social emotional point of view. Bluffton has multiple elementary schools that have an excellent rating. RRA isn't even good, it is average. South Carolina is not known for its high quality of education so when you can only achieve an average rating when compared to other SC schools that is really bad. But instead of the school taking responsibility and making changes to provide a better environment and education they instead blame the kids and publicly shame them for bad grades. They have had multiple days this year where all kids with passing grades were rewarded with a dress down day. So everyone who failed were publicly shamed by being singled out and made to look different in front of peers. This tells everyone who is failing. Isn't that personal, private information? The sad part is that the report card tells the story that the school is failing but instead of taking responsibility they pass the buck and blame the children by branding them publicly as failures. The principal has failed at keeping the connection between school and home positive and active. The school used to be bustling with volunteers and now they have to threaten parents that they will no longer be able to have "fun" activities if nobody offers to help because they have that few people who want to actively be a part of the school. You walk in the doors or down the halls and feel the cold environment the school has become. It used to be warm, friendly and bustling with happy parents, student and teachers. Administration can kill a school and this one has. It is a shell of what it once was and it is a shame because it was so great. I would not recommend this school to anyone but particularly those with special needs. They do not follow IEPs or 504s and take no role in trying to help students reach personalized, achievable goals. They hold grudges and are absolutely horrible to parents and their children if you have to advocate for your child. AwfulParent Review4mo ago - May River High
