4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSubstantially pleased with the support my son receives via the "team lead" teacher approach. It certainly facilitates communication between us and the teaching staff, and we have a better picture of his efforts as a student. The student body is diverse, and the atmosphere of the school is generally stable and pleasant.Parent Review7y ago - Pittsburgh Allegheny 6-8

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is phenomenal. We are so fortunate to go here. Our daughter loves school, has made wonderful friends. From the first week the teachers all seem to know every child by name. Students are greeted each morning with an all-school assembly with drumming, singing, a welcome message by the Principal, and the school rock band rocking out. Its a fantastic way to start the day! There are tons of field trips, lots of art and music incorporated into each day. We love it here!Parent Review5y ago - Pittsburgh Greenfield K-8

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter completed K-2nd grade here before we moved from the area. Almost all of her teachers were wonderful. I liked that they had an arts and music program and that all of the kids were very welcoming to one another. We did have an issue with one of the 2nd grade teachers but other than her our experience was pretty great. their after school program was also well run.Parent Review4y ago - Pittsburgh Science And Technology Academy 6-12

What Locals Say about Oakland
- danielle akamba
- Resident

"It’s a college area, so unless you’re in school I wouldn’t advise living here. Places are affordable the best if you have a roommate to make it easier but unless you’re in college, there’s no point of living here."
- Emilie G.
- Resident
- 3y ago
"Very dog friendly.there are a lot of dog owners who live in the area and walk their dogs. I think residents are very welcoming of dogs. However, yards are typically small don’t offer much space for dogs. Houses are typically smaller too, which is important to keep in mind with many dog breeds "

"I walk to work. it's pretty simple because I work at Pitt, but there are a lot of public transportation options as well "
- Dominika O.

"Oakland is extremely walkable but is ultimately a college neighborhood. it also lacks a real grocery store and other amenities, but is by the park and museum."
- Cris S. L.
- Resident

"Bad , full of spoiled college kids who don’t really respect anyone and have no idea how to drive. Traffic is awful and roads are always closed "
- Rae S.

"This is a college town where young people are always around. If you’re in college at any of the surrounding universities this is perfect for you"
- Nora.elizabeth7

"Many friendly dogs around. But, owners often to not ask if your dogs can mingle and will just approach you. Owners also never clean up after their dogs. "
- Maddy H.

"This is a college neighborhood, so there is a lot of partying. The residents are mostly students and it gets loud at night"

"Oakland is a very walkable neighborhood. Phipps Conservatory, Carnegie Library and Schenley Park along with numerous, ethnically diverse restaurant are all within a easy 20 minute walk."

"Very easy commute driving to downtown, less than 15 minutes. If traveling during express route hours, short commute to town by bus. "

"Lots of places to walk, not maybe people during the day because of students being in class. Other dogs in area are friendly. "

"It seems less safe than it is. Oakland is almost completely college students, and the police patrol quite often, so it's not uncommon to see several police cars out at the same time. It is dirty and there's broken glass everywhere, but the insides of most places are livable (for a college student's standards)."
