5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe love this school. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is because of actions by the district and legislature (risk of school closure and Act 47). My son is in kindergarten there. The school itself is small, so it creates a tight-knit community around the kids. The teachers all seem very engaged and passionate about what they do. The kindergarten class sizes are appropriately small, greatly facilitating learning. My son is doing fantastically with the fundamentals: learning to read and learning early math skills. The STEAM program is great, teaching early skills in coding for example. I think this program will really set students up for success in an increasingly computer-based and skilled economy. Finally, their behavior system is brilliant and effective. It’s based on positive reinforcement of good behaviors. The kids get “paw tickets” for good behavior and following the rules that they can redeem at the monthly “paw shop” for toys and other fun things. They also get class treats like pizza parties for good attendance. It really creates a system where kids want to behave well and succeed.Parent Review2mo ago - Pittsburgh Carmalt K-8

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is phenomenal. We are so fortunate to go here. Our daughter loves school, has made wonderful friends. From the first week the teachers all seem to know every child by name. Students are greeted each morning with an all-school assembly with drumming, singing, a welcome message by the Principal, and the school rock band rocking out. Its a fantastic way to start the day! There are tons of field trips, lots of art and music incorporated into each day. We love it here!Parent Review6y ago - Pittsburgh Arsenal 6-8

"I have lived in the neighborhood for close to 5 years. We owned the restaurant around the corner from our townhouse and have many, many people whom we have met in the neighborhood and surrounding area that are just like family. It’s a great little community "

"Traffic is heavy at peak times. Otherwise it seems like a good place to walk a dog while leashed. There is park space if you can find it."

"theres sidewalks and grass areas for their dogs everywhere. there’s a park right up the street. "

"I enjoy the Restaurants in general, but restaurant week is when the higher end places craft a menu specifically for the week. There is also something called open streets where the Main Street (Butler) is closed and people can walk, bike, skateboard, etc without worrying about traffic. For kids there is a cookie tour. Each store gives cookies away while parents get to shop. "

"Dog park nearby, river trail, lots of sidewalks and mixed industrial spaces to walk your dog. Houses close together w/ fences. I have a dog and luckily the neighbors dog and her get along, sniff and play through the wire fence. "

"No public transportation, the city needs a subway system instead of just buses. Please start construction on the subway system to all the neighborhoods "

"There’s a dog park And it’s really weird. They have parties .... there was a Halloween party this week and they had a folding table filled with food and drinks/ wings cupcakes beer punch ..... they also had boxes of customers, they were really pushy about dressing my dogs up but they didn’t offer me a beer... weird place "

"It’s quiet for a city neighborhood. The neighbors are relatively respectful. It’s incredibly convenient for shopping and dining. There are great restaurants within walking distance. I feel safe walking my dog at night; however, there are a couple houses with drug dealers. The police presence could be better and the roads are terrible."
