8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageVernon is an amazing community. We love that it’s an IB school, and have been impressed by the ways in which each unit is incorporated in all they do. I’ve never been one to go by ratings alone, so before coming to Vernon we asked friends and neighbors about their experiences. We went to information meetings and social events before kindergarten, and were so impressed. We have never looked back, and feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of this school community. There are always ways in which we can do better. I appreciate the school’s desire to grow and change, to better serve all students. I appreciate the efforts to make decisions with equity at the forefront. Our children will be better human beings thanks to these formative years at Vernon. So very thankful.Parent Review3y ago - Jefferson High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI don't know where this information is being pulled from but it is significantly out of date. The school's name is no longer Madison but McDaniel. It's a great school, great teachers and a significant number of AP classes offered. Also, this seems to rank based on test scores. The problem is that testing is no longer required, and many students opt out. And it's a dubious method of educational evaluation, regardless. As parents, we have been very satisfied with the education that our daughter has received there.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 5220 NE 24th Ave.

"It’s a unique area with unique people. Not so desirable in my eyes...but everyone is different. One way streets, poorly kept yards, and a Portland weirdness that some may appreciate; not so much me."

"Fernhill Park has one of the best off leash areas in Portland. Wiltshire and Alberta parks are within easy walking distance."

"I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 1 year and absolutely love it. My favorite neighborhood in Portland by far. A great mix of young professionals, families, retired individuals are dispersed in my neighborhood. All all very friendly and easy going. Very dog friendly park (Alberta park). Tree lined alleys are great areas for getting away from city for a walk. Neighborhood is close to mcminamins, new seasons, Safeway, Me 24 hr fitness, and all the shops on Killingsworth/Alberta. It can be expensive to live here but is well worth it, definitely an up and coming area with lots of development ahead."

"It's a neighborhood where virtually all struggling families have been displaced. It has rapidly gentrified and many smaller, affordable homes are being demolished in favor of new, overpriced McMansions and McDuplexes."

"It’s a neighborhood made of amazing people instead of just “hip” businesses. Also, best bridge in Portland, hands down. "

"This is the best area to live in Portland - close to all amenities, quiet, friendly neighbors, close to bus and Max, totally walkable/bikeable. "
