8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf your child has learning disabilities, do not even consider this school district. Between the underhanded tactics employed by PPS to deny services, and some of the arrogant teachers who ignore IEPs and can't be bothered with cognitively-challenged students, your kids will only suffer. Furthermore, teachers in this district are not contractually obligated to offer extra help, so you will need to pay out of pocket for tutors on top of the ridiculously high school taxes. Don't be fooled by this so-called "Blue Ribbon" district. There is virtually no poverty in this town, so the status is meaningless. My daughter's emotional health suffered until she escaped to private school. My son, who has a significant LD, was placed by the guidance department into an AP class he didn't belong in, with one of the worst teachers for him, probably because they were having trouble attracting enough students to offer the class. Now that the class has started, the teacher wants my son to drop the class. If your child is athletic, white, and gifted, no worries.Parent Review1y ago - James Wilson Young Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI don't have the words to describe how sorry we are to have moved to Bayport. The taxes are exorbitant, and we've had to send our kids to private schools to escape the bullies in the classroom, in the administration, and in the special ed department. Years ago when my first child attended JWY, the homework load was beyond ridiculous. My second child now attends, and the HW load is very reasonable. Most of our kids' teachers have been good and very kind, but there are still some who disregard IEP accommodations and can't be bothered to post HW assignments online for parents to check. Leadership in this school is terrible. There is a high turnover of principals, but unfortunately, the assistant principal has not been booted. She's generally quick to issue detentions to boys without investigating claims made by female accusers. The girl who spread a vicious lie about my special ed son -- which led to his detention/suspension and brought the police to my house -- was never punished. Sweeping these offenses under the rug teaches kids that they can get away with anything, especially if they have family members who work in the district, which far too many do. We're out of here by year's end, hopefully before.Parent Review4y ago - Sylvan Avenue Elementary School

It's clean. There is easy access to health care, meaning:(Hospitals, first responders and friendly police forces..)Although there is good public Transportation, most neighborhoods are not accessible without a car wish create traffic but I wouldn't trade it for any other place :(For someone that lived in the city and Brooklyn for a long time this says a lot. )"

"Lots of boutique shops, hip restaurants and bars, and close to train station and beach. The village is constantly bustling with shoppers, joggers, and bar hoppers. The housing market is shrinking, as it is a popular place to live, and getting to be more so with every passing year. By no means is this cosmopolitan, but rather a mix of tight nit and weekend warriors. The festivals that come around all year long are pretty good, but the one that seems to draw the most people are Alive After Five and the Great South Bay Music Festival. "
- sdagostinosd

"We live in the village and love it. Stores, Restaurants, Night Life...all top notch. No need to go anywhere else. Lived in Pat-Med my whole life, all of my kids have gone to or are still in school. Don't listen to the haters, Schools are fine. We have the same issues as all the other districts. Kids who look for trouble will find it anywhere..... Would recommend Patchogue and especially the village to anyone looking to buy on the south shore...."
