10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAfter having graduated from this school, I can safely say that the majority of the students are not really prepared for college. The grading curves in classes such as math are absurd, with tests only counting for 30% of students' grades and having corrections well into the AP sequences of stats and calculus. The average scores on AP exams are low, with the majority of students having failed the AP Calculus AB exam, prompting the school to stop offering the course. Students frequently use their phones during class and exhibit a general air of ambivalence towards their own education, with this trend seeming to have worsened with incoming classes of freshmen. The teachers at MVA are generally very good if you follow the curriculum that they would like to teach, as opposed to what they end up teaching after having to bend their wills to unruly students. They will offer good advice and provide additional support before AP exams, but the impetus falls on the individual's maturity and seriousness to truly benefit from them. In a world of ever-increasing competitiveness for college admissions, along with the end of affirmative action, I wonder how the school will continue to be able to inflate grades and prop up their students' entrances into colleges for which they lack the preparation.Other Review7mo ago - Ps 11 William T Harris

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm astounded by the level of education at this school. My son is in Kindergarten G&T and is already reading. He has light homework which he does independently. He participates in after-school activities M-F and loves every activity/instructor. I always enjoyed school growing up and I'm so glad that PS 11 is fostering the same excitement around learning for my son.Parent Review5mo ago - Jhs 104 Simon Baruch

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a guardian of a current student at this school, this student is being bullied and none of the teachers are doing anything about it. It was already pretty bad that the teachers aren't doing anything about the bullying, but it is worse that the teachers did not let this student tell their family members about it because they say that it will make it a bigger deal. It is not alright for a teacher to tell their student to not call their parent because of it will ruin their school reputation. The teachers dealing with this problem says that they will be able to fix the problem but they didn't do anything. Now this student is afraid to go to school because the bullies threathens to jump this student and call their friends over to also bully and join in. Also, the bullies didn't get in trouble because the teacher said that he did not see it happen. This isn't the first time this student was bullied but the first time, there was at least one teacher that tried to solve the problem but she left so now this student is having trouble solving this new problem. As for learning, teaching, and other parts of reviewing a school, if students don't feel safe then they obviously would not feel motivated or excited about learning and other activities.Parent Review1y ago - Middle 297
