Gardencourt'' is a lovely Hudson Town home built in 1880 on Allen Street. This home -- and the neighboring town homes -- were built by Frank Forshew, a prominent portrait photographer who was based in Hudson and whose photographs are in the permanent collection of the Getty and Smithsonian Museums.Enter this 3-story town home into a foyer that extends to the rear of the house. The large living room -- with custom-designed cabinetry -- is off to the right and opens into the large dining room with 2 window alcoves overlooking the large side yard and gardens. As you enter the large, country eat-in kitchen, you pass the laundry room and 1st floor powder room. The sun-filled kitchen opens up to the large yard and gardens surrounded by hydrangeas. This private garden, designed and implemented by Pondside Nursery, is the perfect space for both intimate and large gatherings. There is also plenty of room on this double lot to build your own garage or studio. At the top of the original staircase you find the second floor foyer off of which are 3 large bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. Each of the bedrooms is filled with light and plenty of closet space. In the lower level (which was most likely the kitchen for this large home in its heyday) is now a newly renovated and chic media room with wet bar, a home office, a powder room and a wall of custom cabinetry. This room opens to the front with a pretty garden courtyard. All new Marvin windows throughout and updated mechanicals such as an energy efficient boiler and on demand hot water heaterGardencourt'' is a quick walk to all of Hudson's favorites - Talbot and Arding, Warren Street and the Train station

"It's eclectic and gentrified, From whaling and international trade in the 18th century, to cotton mills and brick yards in the 19th century, to cement plants in the early 20th century, industry has risen and fallen. After a long steady decline, the last 30 years in Hudson have seen a remarkable and elegant transformation, thanks in no small part to the influences of my home city, 120 miles to the south. Hudson’s current renaissance started in the ’80s when antiques dealers and artists rediscovered the area and started opening up shop. There are now dozens of antiques stores and galleries along Warren Street, all of which have attracted similarly creative retailers and residents. As diverse as the architecture is, there’s a consistency, thanks in part to the city’s original grid layout of 50- by 120-foot lots and the general uniformity of the buildings’ scale. Hudson fulfills its promise as an escape: verdant hills, roadside farmstands, hawks and eagles overhead. It’s home."
