4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSince the last review, the City of Hudson S.D. (Hudson-Greenport area) has experienced a rebirth. The schools have been renewed, and now Hudson S.D. spends more per student than most NY districts, and they've consolidated the small elementary schools into a modern recently remodeled facility. The High school has been expanded, and a new Middle school is now co-located with the High School. The city's former industries have thankfully gone away and are being displaced by small cap industries with much higher potentials for future growth in the Hudson-Greenport region. A new retail shopping center has also been developed that has created more opportunities for the communities.Parent Review11y ago - John L Edwards Primary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhile some of the teachers are caring, the school overall is very subpar. I don't know what PTA the prior reviewer was involved in, but the parental involvement in this school is low, and unless parents volunteer their time without questioning anything, they are discouraged. The principal doesn't want to deal with confrontation, and seems more interested in doing what is minimally necessary rather than what is innovative or intellectually rigorous. Requests for the simplest changes are met with resistance. Education in the school is focused on serving the special needs and students who are struggling. Those students who could move faster are not allowed to work ahead, and being spread out one or two per class, isolates them and makes it more difficult for teachers to teach to them on their level. If your child has an IEP, it might be a good place to be, but if you have a high performing child, there's nothing offered here. If you want to try it out, I suggest getting used to fighting an uphill battle, and being VERY involved. The superintendent says she wants to improve the district- hopefully she can, as Hudson's future depends on it.Parent Review8y ago - Montgomery C Smith Intermediate School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is pathetic. They do not protect our children. The teachers are uncaring and the aids are unqualified. The Principal is incompetent.Parent Review4y ago - Check out schools near 21 N 6th St.

"High taxes, lots of crime, a disproportionate amount of of low-income housing & one of the worst school systems in NYS (with some of the highest paid teachers, administrators & pensions) make Hudson a nice place to visit, but not a nice place to live. "
