The 6/10 score is probably accurate. This is a mediocre school -- just middle of the road -- not terrible but not great either. MCS is located in a very small village where everyone is either related to each other or their families have known each other for generations. New people stick out like a sore thumb.Pros: The school is very well-funded with small class sizes. There are many really nice people who work at the school, and because the school is so small, most adults and children know each other. If your child plays sports, there is already a place waiting for him/her on any team. Cons: The school is about as basic as a school gets. The students who go on to college/university go to low-to-middle ranked schools. High school students are taught novels that are on a reading level appropriate for middle school (The Outsiders, Animal Farm). Many of the teachers and administrators do not know how to use basic, decades-old technology (PowerPoint, YouTube, a microphone!), and many grew up in the area, went to a local SUNY, and then came back to MCS to teach -- very isolated, narrow life experiences. There is a tremendous amount of turnover -- both adult and student -- three principals in three years, two superintendents in three years, several entire grades of teachers coming and going. There have been a couple of people who didn't even stay a full year (including one of the superintendents). There have been several new students who haven't lasted a full year either. It's really hard to be new or different here. There are people who moved here a couple of decades ago who are still considered new.
