    "I have grown up in Dix Hills and I have raised my family here. The school system is fantastic and we are 20 minutes from everywhere because the parkways are right here. The local restaurants are great and the shopping is convenient. It is a very close knit town and there is a lot of involvement in sports and activities with the kids. We have Tanger Outlet and the Whitman Mall close by as well as shopping on Jericho Turnpike. There we have electronic and sport stores, restaurants, fast food, Macys, Home Depot, etc. Then up the road is Costco, the new Lowes, Target, Home Depot, Home Goods, The Guitar Center, Starbucks and plenty of grocery stores everywhere! We are welcoming Northern Farms up the road! The homes are beautiful and the neighborhoods are well cared for. I recommend Dix Hills highly."

    "Great area to live in for privacy & relaxation, but no commercial properties (except for plant nurseries) are allowed in Dix Hills. You must travel 3-5+ miles for shopping, entertainment, food, gas, etc., which is far compared with most of the rest of Long Island. A meager bus route runs through the area, & goes to a major mall (Walt Whitman), but the schedule leaves much to be desired. If you don't have a car, this area is not for you. Commute to Manhattan is about 1.5 - 2 hours by car in rush hour each way, or take the Long Island Rail Road (20 minutes to get to the train station (by car), plus 1 hour to Penn Station. Northern State Parkway is close by, & so is the Long Island Expressway. If you want to live in a semi-forested, secluded area, try the Caledonia area. South of the LIE is usually more expensive, newer houses, without the forest aspect. Schools are outstanding, & Real Estate taxes are very high. A great place to live, if you can afford it. "

    "Woodedge is a quiet street with a friendly vibe. I grew up on the block, and am looking to move back into the area (my parents moved to Florida). The schools are fantastic (I'm a recent Princeton grad), and the neighbors are so nice--some of them have been there for over thirty years. If anyone in the area has a room for rent, I would really like to know about it."
