5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is my son's 2nd year at Roy H. Mann. Unfortunately Covid-19 knocked out almost a year of in-person learning, one-on-one with teachers, social activities, etc.. My son coming from a grammar school with high academic skills, it was tough for us to actually accept and settle down based on so many negative prior reviews. However, we did, and I advised my son to stay focus and told him that he can be anything he wants to be wherever he goes. He is focused, but it's kind of funny how parents gravitate towards the so-called 'better schools and neighborhoods' not thinking that they can help to make a difference wherever they go.I have been on all the PTA Meetings and serve as a SLT member at other meetings of this school and I must say that there is poor representation of the parents at the PTA meetings, so my question is, why do people complain or find so many faults if they are not stepping up to try to make a difference? I find the Principal, the Vices, Deans, Teachers, Paras, the entire Bd. of Educators at this school to be approachable, friendly, helpful and they get back to you with any concerns or questions unlike the 'Prep' school my son came from.Listen people, you and I, we make the difference, so if you need to see improvements at this school, let it start with us and our kids - plain and simple! Be proactive in the school! Ask Questions! Meet out to teachers if you have concerns or call the office! Do something instead of saying something - that's negative!Parent Review2y ago - James Madison High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy mom was a lunch aide at this school for almost 20 years and my daughter has been going here since Pre-K. My mom passed in 2018 and my daughter begged me to keep her enrolled here because she felt "safe". Worst decision of my life. My moms personal belongings from her locker went missing. We were promised support and therapy for my daughter - never happened. Staff members would continuously ask her about my mom when she asked them not to. She's been bullied. This year being her last year there her classroom or my sons classroom was constantly closed due to COVID. My infant son ended up in ICU after contracting it from his sister. Then shortly after this past April/May she was ICU and what does the caring staff do - call ACS. Upon her return to school she calls me from the bathroom crying saying a lot of the teachers including the assistant principal aren't speaking to her. My daughter is very well known at this school so she took this very personal. This school has went downhill ever since Ms Esposito left. The new principal does nothing for the children, doesn't engage with families and the school is just a mess. Avoid sending your child here if you can.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 4818 Avenue L.

"It’s very family friendly. There are lots of nice and kind people in this neighborhood. There are parks(ex: Marine Park and the PS 207 park). The kids are nice and so are the schools. It feels like your not in New York City even though you are. So it’s great for people with families or those who want to start a family."

"There are pet grooming services and supply stores in the area. But there are dog parks nearby. Only a main park but it is large enough for dogs to run and play."

"I have lived in this neighborhood for six years. The holidays are especially beautiful because you can sit on your patio and look at the Neighborhood fireworks as the sky becomes a spectacular showcase. This is home to great shopping and dining. A wonderful place to raise a family."
