10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son came to the school with ADHD diagnosed at 7, and three medical doctors requesting extra time on tests. The counsellor refused, referring to me as "you people," implying I wanted special privileges. The school psychologist disagreed with her assessment. My son failed classes. He got no support. I had to get the District supervisor to overrule this racist and cruel decision--reprimanding the school--but it was too late. Brooklyn Tech is a school that's run by a lot of angry and disillusioned people who take itheir frustrations out on the parents and kids who need them most. I would rather move out of town or go to a regular public school than send another child of mine here.Parent Review3w ago - Ps 11 Purvis J Behan

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child started kindergarten at PS11 in 2021 and we couldn’t be happier with the decision to choose this school. All the staff are so supportive and caring. The principal (Ms. Hope), assistant principal (Mrs. Rand) , and parent coordinator (Mr. Rand) are some of the sweetest, most concise and informative people you will ever meet. The PTA members and volunteers are on top of everything as well and work on so many functions and events throughout the school year to keep the students and families engaged and involved. Strong communication, community, trust, kindness, and compassion are only a few of the things that come to mind when it comes to describing our experience at PS11. This school cares about different cultures and it is actually part of the curriculum. I would categorize this school as academically rigorous. Lots of projects and homework which is something that my family appreciate (can you expect any less from a school that strives for academic excellence?). Not so sure about my daughter because at this age, they just want to play. She’ll come to appreciate it in time. ;) There’s also a plethora of after school enrichment programs like art, baking, ceramics, coding, chess, science, tennis, drama, dance, swimming!! That’s just to name a few! The teachers, so far, are a hit or miss. I guess it comes down to personality. Some people are more organized than others. As long as the newer teachers are willing to learn the culture of the school and are receptive to it, that’s a plus. So far, no major issues with the teachers. They have been very caring and committed. Daughter likes her teacher and is treated with respect in class so that makes us as parents happy. The students seem friendly (gauging only from a kindergarten through first grade aspect). Our daughter is very quiet and we thought it would be tough for her to make friends. We were wrong. The friends that she has made are the sweetest little things and they make her happy. She wouldn’t want to trade that for any other school.Parent Review11mo ago - Ms 266 Park Place Community Middle School

"Amazing neighborhood, mostly townhouses on quiet tree lined blocks. A lot of apartments have backyards. There is all kings of public transportation, but parking a car might be a little hard, but it’s very close to the city. It’s my favorite neighborhood of n Brooklyn!!!"

"I’ve lived in the neighborhood for five years, it feels so central via all modes of transportation. So many train lines are walking distance. Buses stop on the corner. The ferry will take you to Wall Street, LIC or the East side of 34th street. Bike lanes & CitiBike are available if you don’t want to walk or wait for the bus. The building also has a bike room to store your bike. Prospect Park is directly up Vanderbilt Ave. Wegman’s is walking distance as well. There’s a farmer market at Fort Greene Park every Saturday. There are a lot of local restaurants to dine in or get take out at. Parking is doable in a 3 block radius especially since alternative side is less restrictive. The Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge are very close for easy access to the city. The courtyard is it’s own oasis. Neighbors are friendly and often the building holds events to foster community. I’ve been fortunate to be one of the originals here at Navy Green."
