10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a recent graduate of Byram Hills High School, I have to say that my experience is separate than the actual quality of education provided at this district. It is certainly true that Byram Hills provides an amazing quality of education to students who are not part of the special education. Any college is quick and eager to accept Byram Hills alums as this school prepares students amazingly well for college education. I have found that many college classes I take were easier than classes I would take in high school. There are numerous AP courses to choose from (although little to no emphasis on dual enrollment which is a better option for college credits), numerous advanced courses, and built-in office hours for students to use (they never do). Further, the guidance department is wonderful and extremely good at helping students apply for college and fill out their Common App. However, the actual environment created by the students is horrendous. Students are extremely close minded to ideas that are outside their rich white point of view. Many students who identify as part of a minority within the school demographics (LGBTQ+, POC, low income, religions aside from Catholic and Jewish) face some form of discrimination, harassment, or microaggression regularly. Being 3 of those 4 listed items, it was tough to say the least. If you would like for your kids to have more understanding and acceptance of different types of people, do NOT send your children here. They will leave the school with little to no understanding of the world around him. If you, however, want your kid to be in a racially segregated, all-white, all-wealthy school, then this is your place.Additionally, do not send your kids here if they have some sort of disability (physical, mental, social, etc.), this district's special education program is awful. You just do not want to get involved with them; there are some nasty figures to reckon with. My younger brother had to switch schools because of this.Other Review7mo ago - Coman Hill School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth my children enjoyed being at Coman Hill Elementary. They still return to visit their teachers, who they say made great impressions on them. My daughter was very shy and had a difficult time with separation, but her teachers and aids spent extra time with her and helped build her confidence. My son was diagnosed with special needs but after spending 3 years at Coman Hill with exceptional occupational therapists and counselors, he too moved up with great memories of the experience. There are so many community oriented programs and moral building exercises that have helped to establish and build my children’s character. I’m thankful for this excellent foundation for my kids.Parent Review7mo ago - H C Crittenden Middle School

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur experience with this school has been wonderful. The teachers genuinely care for the students and it reflects in the work they do and their attitudes about school. Our guidance counselor, Claira Domato, is very supportive, kind, and helpful. We feel very lucky to be part of this school.Parent Review1y ago - Wampus School

"It depends which part of Bedford you live in. There is a lot of space and wooded areas however, you almost definitely need a car and there aren’t many sidewalks (except for parts of town)."

"Just moved to Bedford Village and loving it so far. It’s easy to feel destitute here, but you can easily meet people from all walks of life. Wish there was a shuttle bus between Bedford Village and Bedford Hills train station. Great events on the village green."

"There is dog walk and run. The people pick up after their dogs. When dogs go out and they just play and don’t bother each other. The kids love the dogs. People do follow the community guidelines of picking up and having dogs on leash. Many kids outside ride bikes and play. People have barbecue on the grounds. Family oriented and friendly. "

"Bedford is THE classic Westchester village. Friendly and involved citizens abound in this picturesque, historic and safe tight knit community. Local pride is always on display, as are scenes of classic Americana at every town parade, little league game and celebration on the famous Village Green. Where else do the buildings at the heart of your village predated the Declaration of Independence? And citizens buried in the village cemetery since the early 1600's would easily recognize their surroundings to this day? And historic tours offered to visit neighborhood homes such as that of founding father John Jay? All of this history blends beautifully with an ever blossoming and sought after school system and spectacular public parks, athletic fields, town swimming pools, and the famous Bedford Riding Lanes Association. The definition of classic "horse country" where anyone can easily see foals playing each spring and often share the road with four-hooved vehicles throughout the seasons. Opportunities to hike on nature trails, see abundant wildlife and bring man's best friend along as you go are endless. Here, parents can still let their kids go off with their friends, ALONE, for a walk to get a snack, see a movie, go to the park or for a day at the pool. It's a wonderful sight and feeling to still see there is place where this is still part of the norm. There is simply no place like Bedford Village. It is one of the most unique places in America to live. Many think of Bedford and immediately associate it with it's many famous residents or epic estates. However, the true heart of it is one of small town America preserved in it's best form for posterity, while all the while staying at the forefront of culture, politics, public events, education and all aspects of life. Nothing is perfect...but it'a close."
