The current leader of the school does a poor job of keeping kids safe, has a high staff turnover rate, is losing students to other schools like nobody's business and according to several current students, plays favorites amongst the staff. Sandia offers numerous opportunities to its students: we have a broad range of extracurriculars, elective choices and advanced courses. Our teachers and administrators are responsive to our academic needs and my peers have demonstrated that they seek out opportunity and are determined to learn. I also appreciate that Sandia is diverse. Our attendance area covers diverse areas of Albuquerque from the Heights around Arroyo del Iso golf course to Southern, more deprived areas of the city. In addition, Sandia has the highest transfer rate of any APS School. All of these factors compose a student body that is well-rounded, motivated and inclusive. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe short time my son attended this school he did a great job with his studies. The two teachers he experienced were wonderful. The problem I had which inspired an immediate transfer was the horrible names and cursing my son would endure by he other students. Mind you, he's in first grade which made it worse in my opinion. He was also involved in a couple of minor physical altercations which concerned me. "I grew up in this neighborhood and my parents still live here. The houses here are on bigger lots with mature trees. The neighborhood has a mixed age group in it, ranging from retirees to younger families. There are several parks in the area and its very close to shopping. Home values seem reasonable, especially among the homes that may have not been updated consistently throughout the years. Several of the homes on my street still have the original owners in them my grandparents knew. "
