Students had no expectations placed onto them at the beginning of the school year, so there are basically "no rules." Students use their phone during class, eat meals and leave the mess, and spray water in the hallways and on desks, causing people to slip. I was told by a staff member that, "grades do not matter (unless the student is in sports) and that they know grades do not matter because they cannot be held back/retained. The punitive punushment and suspensions used at Taft are through the roof, as the answer to any behavioral problems is to take the students out of the classroom. Students with special needs and ELL's are also not being supported with any form of IEP, EA, or instructional support. Overall, I feared for my life at this school. On my first day, I was supposed to be given a tour of the school and no one knew about it. The principal was doing a coffee run for his coworker while I navigated the school almost by myself. "There are skunks, & stray dogs running around. You have to keep your pets indoors once the sun goes down to avoid them having a encounter with a skunk or raccoon. There are also a lot of intact dogs running around making it hard to walk your dog knowing other dogs could attack them at any time. "

"This area is close to everything but has the Rural flavor and quite setting. The annual Balloon festival is famous worldwide and is only a very short distance away. The Balloon field is used for concerts and many special events throughout the year. Balloons fly every few days in the area. Wild birds are abundant. Geese & ducks flock to the irrigated valley by the hundreds. Freeway is close by as is the Sandia Casino and Isleta lakes. Horseback riding, & hiking trails are everywhere. Fishing is good in the stocked canals. "
