1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageYa know despite the fact that the school is overall not a great place, I've been having a great experience! You'll be good as long as you don't heavily involve yourself with a bunch of various persons and their business. Be careful not to mess with people, but if that does end up happening just tell a staff member about it, it doesn't seem like people try to harass the people their friends are harassing (at least for me). A bunch of my teachers are really supportive, I like all of them except for my biology teacher, and a lot of the teachers seem to be going from decent to pretty good at what they are teaching, and if you can look in the right place, you can make great relationships with fellow students! Even the ones who are rough around the edges are pretty good people! Overall, I'm having fun here! I could've chosen to stay at the high rated school I was at, but I decided to transfer here and I'm not regretting it!Student Review2y ago - Central High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCHS is a great school. I have a totally different background and was worried about bullies but I have been received with love and kindness. Excellence is celebrated regardless of where you come from. Teachers interact with us like their own children. I am a 9th grader and can say I absolutely enjoy school. My teachers are already discussing college courses with me.Future Aeronautical Engineer,Oluwadamilare.Student Review6y ago - East Side High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI just was awarded section 8. I was so excited. I wanted to move out of Newark. Then I received a letter from Malcolm Shabazz stating that my son was one of 6 students in Newark district schools that was awarded a scholarship to Lincoln Tech. All expenses paid. Malcolm Shabazz also informed us that not only will he be graduating next year with honors from there but also Lincoln Tech. They informed us upon graduating in would receive an additional scholarship for 85,000, to further his education. My son was and is so excited. So as for me moving out of Newark, not happening now. My son's dreams have to come first. Thank you Malcolm Shabazz for caring so much about my child and his future!Parent Review5mo ago - Weequahic High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe education system in the building is very strong and positive. 2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is getting worse and worse by the years people think it looks like a good school from the outside but they have no structure no discipline. So therefore there is complete chaos. Also the principal only pitch sometimes when things get really out of control because it will possibly mess up her reputation. So she needs to be fired because she does not really do anything to help the school. That is exactly why our school does not learn anything and test scores a dropping by the minute and it is the reason why scores are so low.Student Review4y ago - Check out schools near 43 Carolina Ave.

- Dee

"I've lived here for all my life. This is probably one of the nicer, quieter, calmer, neighborhoods in Newark that isn't as expensive as Central Business District and its surrounding neighborhoods. Aesthetically, certain parts of the neighborhood could use a little TLC particularly on the main streets (South Orange Ave and Sanford Ave). But when you actually go into the neighborhood where all the residences are, you'll see some blocks with friendly residents who take pride in their homes' appearance and are welcoming people. The further west you go into UV, the nicer the area gets because you're reaching the borderline of South Orange, NJ."
