1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageYa know despite the fact that the school is overall not a great place, I've been having a great experience! You'll be good as long as you don't heavily involve yourself with a bunch of various persons and their business. Be careful not to mess with people, but if that does end up happening just tell a staff member about it, it doesn't seem like people try to harass the people their friends are harassing (at least for me). A bunch of my teachers are really supportive, I like all of them except for my biology teacher, and a lot of the teachers seem to be going from decent to pretty good at what they are teaching, and if you can look in the right place, you can make great relationships with fellow students! Even the ones who are rough around the edges are pretty good people! Overall, I'm having fun here! I could've chosen to stay at the high rated school I was at, but I decided to transfer here and I'm not regretting it!Student Review2y ago - Central High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCHS is a great school. I have a totally different background and was worried about bullies but I have been received with love and kindness. Excellence is celebrated regardless of where you come from. Teachers interact with us like their own children. I am a 9th grader and can say I absolutely enjoy school. My teachers are already discussing college courses with me.Future Aeronautical Engineer,Oluwadamilare.Student Review6y ago - East Side High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI just was awarded section 8. I was so excited. I wanted to move out of Newark. Then I received a letter from Malcolm Shabazz stating that my son was one of 6 students in Newark district schools that was awarded a scholarship to Lincoln Tech. All expenses paid. Malcolm Shabazz also informed us that not only will he be graduating next year with honors from there but also Lincoln Tech. They informed us upon graduating in would receive an additional scholarship for 85,000, to further his education. My son was and is so excited. So as for me moving out of Newark, not happening now. My son's dreams have to come first. Thank you Malcolm Shabazz for caring so much about my child and his future!Parent Review6mo ago - Weequahic High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe education system in the building is very strong and positive. The staff and students welcome you with open arms and show u the right way to be in the building. West side is full of positive attitudes and positive people.Parent Review1y ago - Dr. E. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is terrible. They lack organization, the staff is childish and will exact revenge on children they do not like which are usually the ones who do not agree with everything they say or do. Your child will be regarded as an outcast and a constant problem. Staff here have more absences than the days they teach. During Covid packets were provided by the district to be completed and the children at this school almost all fell short of understanding the basic demands and instructions given. Adding insult to injury with poor testing scores among other things there seems to be a nasty issue the district has been hiding in regards to birth years so they've been placing children in the incorrect days only to pull them and place them in the correct grades when they catch it in a audit years later. Many children are in two grades simultaneously which I have never heard of or seen anywhere before. They will claim to support the child to catch them up to where they should've been but the truth is they do no such thing. In fact they place them where they should've been and leave them to fend for themselves. Please do not send your children here if you can avoid it and if possible don't bother with the Newark School District period.Other Review6mo ago - Check out schools near 226 N 5Th St.
