1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageYa know despite the fact that the school is overall not a great place, I've been having a great experience! You'll be good as long as you don't heavily involve yourself with a bunch of various persons and their business. Be careful not to mess with people, but if that does end up happening just tell a staff member about it, it doesn't seem like people try to harass the people their friends are harassing (at least for me). A bunch of my teachers are really supportive, I like all of them except for my biology teacher, and a lot of the teachers seem to be going from decent to pretty good at what they are teaching, and if you can look in the right place, you can make great relationships with fellow students! Even the ones who are rough around the edges are pretty good people! Overall, I'm having fun here! I could've chosen to stay at the high rated school I was at, but I decided to transfer here and I'm not regretting it!Student Review2y ago - Central High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCHS is a great school. I have a totally different background and was worried about bullies but I have been received with love and kindness. Excellence is celebrated regardless of where you come from. Teachers interact with us like their own children. I am a 9th grader and can say I absolutely enjoy school. My teachers are already discussing college courses with me.Future Aeronautical Engineer,Oluwadamilare.Student Review6y ago - East Side High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI just was awarded section 8. I was so excited. I wanted to move out of Newark. Then I received a letter from Malcolm Shabazz stating that my son was one of 6 students in Newark district schools that was awarded a scholarship to Lincoln Tech. All expenses paid. Malcolm Shabazz also informed us that not only will he be graduating next year with honors from there but also Lincoln Tech. They informed us upon graduating in would receive an additional scholarship for 85,000, to further his education. My son was and is so excited. So as for me moving out of Newark, not happening now. My son's dreams have to come first. Thank you Malcolm Shabazz for caring so much about my child and his future!Parent Review5mo ago - Weequahic High School

"This area is at the heart of 4 Colleges/Universities (Rutgers, UMDNJ, NJIT, & Berkley College). Very diverse community because of the college kids and faculty living in the area. Patrolled by Newark's police department, Rutger's Police Department & NJIT police department at the same time 24/7. One block away from train station to NY and Newark path (Commute to NYC is about 15 min!) and 15 min drive to Newark International Airport. In the middle of the historic district surrounded by brownstone houses. Targeted by city officials, state planners, and national non-profits for urban renewal. Mayor Hospital (Saint Michale's) 2 blocks away. Blue ribbon school around the corner. Newark's Museum and public library 3 blocks away. Park with summer farm market at walking distance.Area is included in the Downtown district plans so it is reduced property tax and reduce commerce/sales tax. Community involvement is a plus in this area with a very active Neighborhood association with a focus on community development and historical preservation."
