6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOverall, most of the teachers are nice but a bit strict. There’s not too much work but it really depends on the teacher. That’s the only good things I have to say about this school. On the other hand, there’s the school lunches. I was fed a slice of bread and a cheese stick for lunch on Monday. It’s not a “Nutritious and balanced meal”, we’re starving. Secondly, there’s the dress code. You don’t even need to be wearing a crop top to get dress coded for “having your stomach out”, I once wore a normal shirt and lifted my arms up and my stomach showed for a few seconds. I got dress coded. In addition, the bullying is terrible. They claim to be the best in the state in terms of bullying and we have so many assemblies on what to do when you get bullied. “Tell an adult snd they’ll deal with it”, they say but I have and nothing happens. They favor students and if you so much as accuse their favored students of bullying you they ignore it. There had been multiple reports of SA from students about students but they never do anything about it. All they get is a lecture and maybe a 1 day suspension if you’re lucky. If you’re sick and go to school, you get yelled at for spreading germs. If you’re sick and don’t go to school, you get yelled at for missing valuable lesson time. Even if that “valuable lesson time” was watching a movie in class or missing a game of volleyball. They’re never satisfied. I can’t say much about the special education because I’m not in it, but I’ve heard they don’t get the best of treatment.Student Review1y ago - Ethel M. Burke Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a parent I was very happy with the school. We put three children through here and all of them are successful. All three went on to four year out of state colleges. Virginia Tech, Clemson and Notre Dame. All three graduated two have great jobs and are incredibly successful and the third is earning her doctorate degree in biochemistry and genetics. Education is not one hundred percent the job of the teacher parents need to work with their children be invested in their education and push their children. Any high school the success of the student will mainly be based on the effort of the student and their parents. In this generation of helicopter parents who haves raised entitled kids that don’t want to work it gets increasingly more difficult for teachers to do their jobs. Teachers unfortunately in many cases are glorified babysitters because the problem students cannot be disciplined and they take up more of the classes time than those that wish to learn. My only complaint with this school is the guidance office. They were horrible. They were lazy they were not helpful and they were incredibly negative. One of my children applied to 12 schools. The list included the likes of Rice, Notre Dame, UNC, UVA, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Duke etc. Her counselor was kind enough to tell her and later me ona phone call. That her list of schools is impressive but she needs to be more realistic. When I asked what she meant she informed me that both her daughters had applied to UVA and UNC and neither was accepted and, no offense, they were much better students than my daughter. She instructed my daughter she should apply to Stockton and if she wanted to go away to apply to coastal Carolina?? My daughter did not do that and was accepted at 11 of the 12 schools she applied to. Vanderbilt being the only nah. How could her counselor have been that wrong??Parent Review4y ago - Check out schools near 321 Oakland Ave.
