4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTeachers are nice but again I'm not sure if they are lacking in the ability to actually teach or if they are just doing what the system says to do and push the kids forward to the next grade without actually making sure they are at least in an average level compliant with where they need to be for the next grade. I think they are tied up with the bureaucrats which in the long run means the kids are loosing out. My final comment would be this could be a great school, but the first thing that needs to be done is that the students need to be educated and educated properly. They need to be fluent in the basics and if they aren't they need to be held back. This will make the school look bad for a while but in the end it's the students that will benefit by getting a better education and this in turn will improve the overall school itself. The question I ask all parents is this, "Are we just wanting a bunch of kids to be in a group with no skills to do well in life, or do we want our children to be and do better than we have in life?" If the answer is better then we need to fight the school in how they handle testing and teaching. We had, 20 and 30 years ago teachers who taught, now its try and keep up and if you can't that's the next grades problem.Parent Review3y ago - Hillsboro-Deering High School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a student of this school, I believe that the quality of education is amazing. There are so many amazing teachers who put effort into their lessons. The school also offers numerous extracurriculars including DECA, student council, and SADD. The thing I like most about HDHS is the personal connections you are able to establish with the teachers and staff. You will always be able to find a trustworthy adult to talk to. I truly am so happy I was able to attend HDHS and hope to come back and visit soon. Reading reviews of angry parents and kids will never be able to truly tell all that this school has to offer.Parent Review3y ago - Hillsboro-Deering Middle School

"It’s a nice community. I’m older with no kids and live on the river. Not sure about the schools. The town is an older mill town, with a dead down town, trying to make a come back. "

"It’s a quiet area within close proximity to stores and schools. Not much crime at all. The view of the hills is beautiful especially in the fall."

"There are plenty of areas around that are dog friendly trails. People are friendly as well as their dogs"

"Nice flat 2 mile walk around Emerald Lake is great for dogs of all sizes and ages. One beach on the lake specific to dog access, and the boat launch is another area that dog owners like to bring the pups. "

"The school is not good. My friend's kids never have homework, and the teachers don't alert parents if the kids are doing poorly on tests."

"The Old Center is a near-perfectly preserved, quiet New England village. Safe, charming, and tranquil."

"I live in Hillsborough, have for most of my life. The downtown has some gems like Butler Park, which is where the weekly Farmers Market and Thursdays in the Park music series are held in the summers. There are some good restaurants (Stone Arch Tavern, Tooky Mills Pub, and Sampan Chinese Restaurant), too. Fox State Forest is another great feature of the town - many acres of forest with wonderful trails for hiking, mountain biking, and snowshoeing and x-country skiing in winter. There are several active churches and many civic organizations. You wouldn't believe how many artists there are in this area! We have the annual hot air Balloon Festival, the Art Tour, Schnitzelfest, Living History Event, as well as 2 musical coffee houses held monthly. The schools are all on the same campus, k thru 12, and there are ongoing efforts to improve testing scores. Lots of sporting activities and after school activities. There isn't much in the way of nightlife here, so young singles would probably find us boring. There is some (but not enough, at times) parking downtown, and no public transportation at all. "
