1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAll the negative reviews have been accurate. My son has gone there for 4 years. I just found this website. The statistics seem to accurately portray the reality of this school. Students are not respected by the employees, there is little to no communication with the parents, the resource officer is highly inappropriate, has even pulled a gun on my non-violent and non-threatening son. They have refused my requests to put him with kids his own age multiple times, despite his iep. Most teachers will push kids through even with no effort to bolster their statistics, which are still lousy. School lunch is inadequate. Some good teachers but the norm seems to be cocky, creepy or immature young teachers with little to no experience. Apparently one teachers comes into class throwing up his set (representing his gang, for those who didn't know). Regular threats of violence against the school make the students and parents nervous on a daily basis, yet the school doesn't report these incidents to the parents, we have to find out from our kids or the news. Busing is horrible, and may have improved slightly this last year, is still unreliable. I have heard reports of the drivers hopping curbs at speed and driving through yards without stopping. Long story short, if you love your kid, don't make the same mistake I did... send them to almost any other school than Benson. BTW, I'm not trolling with rating as low as possible, this reflects my true sentiment towards this school and their staff.Parent Review1y ago - Monroe Middle School

"I have lived here since 2017 and I absolutely love this neighborhood. It's quite, friendly, safe and very child friendly. There is never any crime and you hardly ever hear emergency sirens. Every single neighbor has been wonderful and polite except one. "

"Best place to live in DC. It’s a beautiful neighborhood that is urban but not downtown. It’s all about the park and trail, tons of restaurants, things to do, grocery stores, markets, bar. Has its own metro in easy walking distance and a trail that connect you to the east side of the city. "

"NoMa Bid has been creating a huge sense of community in Eckington and NoMa. For one they keep the area so clean and you always see their workers sweeping the sidewalks, changing trashing, maintenance at the dog park. And then there’s the events, most at the A.T. Park and the MBTrail. Movie in the park, farmers market, holiday events like pumpkin patch/contest, and of course the mural walls festival. The trail and park have beautiful murals everywhere and each year local artist renew most of them. (NoMa in Color). Also the dog parks is a big vibe in the area, Eckington Dog Park is the best in the city, but there are 4 in the area. Also, Bouldering Project is a cool bouldering and fitness gym. Theres tons of grocery, restaurants, bars and beer gardens, etc. it’s surround by Union Market, Brookland, Shaw, H Street… all connect my the MBT (bike/walk trail) and NoMa/Gallaudet Metro Station (subway). "20 minutes to town, one can go through downtown 25 mph or there are other roads through the countryside that have no lights and higher speed limits to get to the other end of town. 30 min to Carson City. One hour to Reno"

"Dogs that can’t be controlled by the owners. It puts you and your dog at risk because as you can imagine it’s larger dogs causing issues. Also people who may not live in your building walk dogs over in your area and leave feces."
