  • Trulia User
"Homeless population in downtown area continues to grow. While safety is not generally a major concern here, I would be cautious about walking around alone at night in areas like French Broad and Montford/Five Points."

  • Trulia User
"Public transportation is very unreliable, you have to have a car to get around. It’s also not super safe to ride your bike"

  • Trulia User
"There are neighborhood potlucks and periodic game nights. Many homeowners are dog owners and several people walk their dogs together, and always stop and chat with neighbors that happen to be out. "

  • Trulia User
"A lot of dogs but not many dog friendly places to live. Expensive and very touristy. Lots of dog friendly restaurants though. Would be nice if there was more green space especially in apartment complex’s. If places do allow dogs they usually require a non refundable deposit and an extra pet fee per month. "

"We live in candler/Enka just off 140. We don’t know anyone around us because we are in a back road and lotsa space between us. Love our view of Pisgah. We do not love how our seemingly country area has so much speeding traffic. It’s parole who use the road to get to theirs. So many. It’s loud."

"I believe that Asheville as a whole is an extremely safe place to raise children, but you do have to be particular about the neighborhood you choose, since there are many neighborhoods with no sidewalks, and where people drive too fast down some roads."

"I was born and raised in Asheville and have always worked and given to my community. My husband passed away 5 years ago and I’m struggling to survive trying to afford life in Asheville now. Affordable housing is a joke. We raised 3 sons here. I sold our home and now rent an apartment. I have to watch every penny in order to survive in Asheville as apartment rentals are outrageous, even the Affordable Housings Apts. are laughable at their costs."

"I work in the area and walk each day to and from. I have never had any issues regarding safety and leave early in the morn to the gym (YWCA) and late in the evening to the Grey Eagle. We had a walk through of the home and were impressed. This is one of the homes we are considering. We are in a apartment and are looking for some additional space. "
