Description
This property is no longer available to rent or to buy. This description is from February 11, 2023
In Belhaven the history of the homes is almost as interesting as the homes themselves. One home with wonderful history is now available.
828 Belhaven Street is also known as the I. A. Metz House. Built between 1929 and 1930 high on a hill overlooking Belhaven Street the three-bedroom two bath home was designed by Emmett Hull, the husband of artist Marie Hull, who lived across the street, as well as architect E. L. Malvaney. The one-story Tudor Revival style is impressive with a clay tile roof, canvas awnings and paired casement windows with 10 lights to each casement. The entry door is wood batten with four lights and the front chimney has a stepped design with random cast stone quoins and a conch shell cast stone panel.
The home is truly representative of its time as the interior continues to impress. The foyer opens into a large gathering space 27 x 15 with 12-foot ceilings centered around the large fireplace. One entire wall in this room is large casement windows. The light that fills this room is amazing. Ornate designs along the edges of the ceiling and the handmade plaster walls will take you back to a time inspired by true craftsmanship and grace. The wood flooring is in wonderful condition.
To the left of the foyer is a large sunroom, 19 x 14 with a teal tile floor, beautiful matching ceiling fan and two walls of large casement windows in this inviting and comfortable space.
Plaster accents and textures carry the charm and grace of this home into the dining room that connects to the kitchen via a convenient butler's pantry.
A long hallway leads you to two large bedrooms with more high ceilings. Again, casement windows bring in an abundance of inviting light and the wonderful wood flooring is rich in color.
A third bedroom, sitting area and separate bath are toward the back of the home. A secluded, comfortable space with large windows and more bright light.
The previous owner collected cars and constructed an over sized garage. If the new owners do not have 5-6 collectable cars the space would make a great workshop, hobby space or gaming area.
If you are interested in making Belhaven your home and value a piece or architectural history basically untouched by time, come visit 828 Belhaven Street. You may decide to stay.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child first enrolled at Casey Elementary back in 2012. That year was a great year. The parents would receive newsletters ahead of time and would also receive weekly reports from the teachers about their child's grades, lessons, and behavior. Things have changed since then. We are getting late notices about school events and school closure during the holidays. I would have to go online and check the JPS school website to see when the kids are to return after the holidays. Casey now has a new principal and she is not very active with the parents at all. I didn't even know what she looked like until about three months ago. I'm use to meeting my child's teacher and other staff during open house or the first day of school. I've had some concerns that needed to be addressed and wanted to have a conference with the principal, but she was always out of the office. I've left notes inside her box at the office for her to contact me and she did not respond. I finally heard from her during the last three months when I first found out who she was and it was to address an issue that arose about my child and from that point on she has been constantly contacting me. Some of the things I'm contacted about don't seem reasonable and I'm beginning to wonder if it's sort of nitpicking. Some ways that I'm contacted are not by meeting it's unannounced and it's either a day or days after these issues arise. I find that very unprofessional. This hasn't a been a good year at Casey Elementary at all.Parent Review6y ago - Murrah High School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a student at William B. Murrah High School located in central Jackson area. The school is an ideal school for students aiming to strenghten their career opportunities in the metro-area. The school offers a variety of extracurricular activities that aid in providing science and mathematical preparation for potential jobs that will require a rigorous background in these subjects.I believe the teachers are very alert and helpful when striving to teach individuals and keep on task. I am very happy to be part of a strong program.Student Review12y ago - Power Apac School

"my comments speak for themselves. safety: car jackings and robberies in the last month. pet friendly: cars come flying through here, few sidewalks. walkability: average for MS which means poor. One park, modest playground, taken over weekly by by unrestrained dogs and their beer drinking owners. Traffic? has no respect for marked signs. No transportation to anywhere, no retail areas close by (except the "crack-a-co" on state street and kiefers. why are these fixer uppers so over priced? look at some of these listings. geez. "
