    "Not to be rude, but where did they get these crime stats? I lived less than 5 minutes from this place and my house was broken into and all my valuables were stolen. Not only that, but the police department did absolutely nothing beyond dropping off a blank statement and telling me to bring it to the police station. I was terrified to stay in my home after that. The place is dangerous, scary and dirty. And these overpriced lofts used to be for "sale," and after they all went unsold for eons they were offering to give away free Landrovers to anyone who would be silly enough to sign up. And don't get me started on the ordinance enforcement folks. These people shed quite a bit of light on that BTK guy. Not to mention the raving rat problem. Stay away. Far. "

    "Ferndale is either in the heart of, or within easy commute of, everything that an urbanite could hope for. There are excellent restaurants and a vibrant nightlife at your doorstep. With the overall decline in real-estate in Michigan, it is also very affordable. Many of life's necessary errands are within walking distance, and the residents are friendly and welcoming to those they pass on the street, or meet in a pub or restaurant. Although the city is close to Detroit, it doesn't suffer from a high crime rate. That is mainly because the police force is efficient and vigilant. The schools are very good, but most of the existing homes in this area tend to be smaller, so large families may wish to explore Pleasant Ridge to the North, or one of the other surrounding cities. It is an ideal location for gays and lesbians as it is considered to have one of the largest concentrations of same sex residents in the state. People tend to have a strong sense of community here, and it is a community that is open to all. "
