5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe experience (September 2021-June 2022)I had with the Kindergarten teacher at Beechview elementary, was one to remember. She often called me with my daughter crying, asking me to walk her through a conflict. I was unsure why she would do this when as a teacher she should be able to walk her through a conflict seeing how she was there and saw it from beginning to the end. The other issue I had was my daughter being brought out in urine soaked denmin jeans among peers, staff and parents by a peer teacher. My daughter had extra clothes she could change into. I often wonder why they chose not to even call me in versus sending her out like this. I had been communicating with the teacher to let her know I was there and could help and she ignored all of them and when I text (via school app with stamped time on them) asking her if I can come in as planned by the principal to help my daughter get familiar with the classroom restroom. This teacher responded to that text with a "no I can't stay" but ignored my other text. My feelings were seriously hurt by that action and I was extremely disappointed in that teacher. Then weeks after that this same teacher texted me saying my daughter wasn't ready for Kindergarten. I scheduled a meeting with her and the principal. In this meeting the teacher threw the blame back at me when it came to the urine soak denmin jeans issue she said she thought I you would had called the office. I said why would I do that and I was communicating with you and when you didn't respond I thought you handled the issue and you clearly wouldn't neglect my child, well I was wrong. The other issue my daughter came home with a book that had the word gruesome in it and talked about human sacrifice from the Media room. My daughter is in Kindergarten and I just thought that wasn't a grade nor age appropriate book. I brought it to the principal attention and she took care of the book. I wonder how is it my daughter was allowed to check out such a book. After I told the principal my daughter began to came home with age and grade appropriate books. Then two weeks out from the last day of school this same teacher brought my crying daughter the car herself at 3:15pm not telling me she was bringing her out early nor did I sign her out. The reason she said cause she was upset. I thought to myself where was this concern when my daughter was in urine soak denmin jeans for two and a half hours. Why wasn't the check and balances followed.Parent Review1y ago - East Middle School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has been at East since September 2016. It is his first year and he likes the school and his teachers. He loves the different courses that they offer, which is important for students. The only problem that I have with the school is that they offer science, English and math as the last three classes, in that order. I have asked my sons counselor and the principal if these classes could be taken earlier in the day. I was told that there are other math, English, and science classes earlier in the day but my son could not take the earlier classes. I have had to go to the school several times because my son has asthma but was not using his inhaler at school. I asked the principal and the teacher of his last class if they could remind him to use his inhaler. I sat in class and witnessed him coughing and struggling to breath. I asked the principal again if my son could be reminded to use his inhaler. I explained that he would not be able to comprehend what was being taught if he could not breath properly. I feel that my son is not important to them and they don't really care if he learns or not. I asked if he could get help with math through a program that helps children with math in their WIN class. They said that it is for select students as are the earlier math, English, and science classes. What has to happen for my child to be important enough to be a "SELECTED STUDENT"? The school offers a variety of courses that children are interested in and those courses are offered earlier in the day, however, the courses that are important are important for kids to succeed in high school and enter college are given a back seat. Maybe it is the "SELECTED STUDENTS" that will succeed because their education is set up for them to succeed. They get the important courses earlier in the day and special math help in their WIN classes. I felt like I was being blown off because I was complaining that my son couldn't breath in his last classes of the day. The school is a nut free school which is good for children with nut allergies but I guess asthma is not a high priority on the list of life threatening allergies.Other Review7y ago - Warner Upper Elementary School
