8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI don't know what everyone else is talking about, but it would have been better for me to not go to school at all than to have gone here. I have some academic strengths, but also have some learning difficulties. Many of the teachers here, even the "good" ones, willingly ignored my difficulties, going as far as to humiliate me in front of the entire class when I couldn't live up to their expectations. Even worse, they would encourage other students in the class to join them in humiliating me. Those teachers also told my parents that I willingly not keeping up with the work, and my parents automatically believed them.I tried to explain to my teachers about my learning difficulties but they wrote me off as looking for excuses. Yet recently, I was genetically tested, and found genetic evidence for those difficulties. I am almost 26 years old and barely getting by, and still have flashbacks of my time here. My biggest regret was not just failing all my classes and dropping out.Other Review5y ago - Donley Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI pulled my daughter out of Donley two weeks in to the school year! I received a phone call from the automated system saying that my 6 year old was absent from school, but I put her on the bus my self that morning. I immediately called the school to make sure that it was a mistake, but found out that for the first 30 - 40 minutes of the school day her teacher did not know where she was. When I asked what happened, and if the buses were late getting to the school, her teacher told me nonchalantly that the buses were on time, and that she figured my daughter was just late because she was eating breakfast in the lunch room. The teacher proceeded to tell me that she sent my daughter back out of her kindergarten class with no adult supervision to get a tardy slip at the main office. She has two adult aids in her class, but chose to send her alone back into the hallway to find her way to the main office. When I asked her why she did not send my daughter to the office with supervision, she told me that my daughter is old enough to find her way around the school, and that kindergarten students are expected to know their way around by the second week. I later found out that my daughter was wandering the halls with an older girl, during the time that her teacher was not aware of her whereabouts. I picked her up immediately and switched her to Whitehills right away.Parent Review8y ago - Macdonald Middle School

"Nothing, my community is very average for East Lansing. Mostly students, some adults that have lived here for a long time. The apartment walls are thin, kids are dumb, and everything is within walking distance."

"The neighborhood has become very seedy, especially after the city cut down most of the large trees that made this place special. Trees add value to properties and they take decades to replace. I'm looking to leave East Lansing soon!"

"I walk to work at MSU. It’s wonderful summer, spring and fall. Winter is often beautiful as well. The sidewalks in most of our area are well cared for. Although, in student rental areas are iffy. There are lots of people walking almost everyday. If I drive, it takes me 5 minutes door to door."
