7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school prides itself on its test scores. Unfortunately, that's the singular priority for administration. We've had students at Leonardtown for 7 years and what was a lovely school has been very negatively affected by high staff turnover since the current principal started. Discipline is incredibly inconsistent. Each of my kids has had a bully in their class, and little to no corrective action has ever been taken. The discipline is haphazard and blanket punishments means kids who are behaving suffer the consequences of those who are not. Meanwhile, kids with actual special needs are punished for behaviors they cannot control. I was told more than once that my child's ADHD and SPD issues might be solved with "better discipline at home." Parent input is welcome as long as it's hours and hours of volunteer time or effusive praise. Efforts to engage in addressing problems result only in the family being flagged as problematic. My neurodivergent child needed a 504 and it wasnt until he moved to another school that the staff put in the time and care to make it a useful tool for him. Blanket solutions were all Leonardtown could offer. Student initiative is discouraged. The 5th grade wanted to have an end of year ceremony, the principal said the school board banned them. I have yet to see this in writing anywhere and other schools are having them. A student put together a petition and before even reading it, the principal went into each 5th grade classroom and tried to convince the students they had been deceived by a classmate because "no one wants a ceremony." The petition had signatures from about 75% of the class. Students were afraid they'd get in trouble for signing the petition. For a school that preaches "above all else, respect," I've personally experienced very little of that from Leonardtown Elementary School.Parent Review1y ago - Leonardtown Middle School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you are in the top 5% of your class they actually teach your children and encourage them to come to school, if you are an average student or are not taking a varsity sport to a regional championship you can come, but they really don't want you there. I have my third student at Leonardtown High School and their experience has been very different from my first two students. The first two were average students, with excellent behavior, who were never shown any encouragement or care the entire time they were there. My third student is continuously encouraged to do everything and is fully supported by the school, but this child excels academically and athletically. I knew the disparity existed, but until I was able to fully actualize the difference in treatment I did not realize how much my first two students missed out on and just how marginalized they were. The school is a pressure cooker and the only thing worse than how the students treat one another is how the staff treats the kids who are not out there making the school shine at the state level. The coaches can treat players that are not D1 bound horribly and are 100% backed up by an athletic director that only cares about the facilities and barely interacts with the athletes. The drug culture is in full effect but they pretend it doesn't exist. We just got an email last week alerting us to the fact that there have been way too many fights and acts of violence this year. In addition, the water at the school is currently contaminated with e-coli and no one can wash their hands or drink the water. So how they have a 9/10 rating is beyond me.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 41420 Heritage Ln.

"Perfect, close to the base and beautiful downtown Leonardtown. On the golf course with a few hundred yard walk to clubhouse (which has fantastic food and drinks), but most importantly, only a short walk to the Breton Bay Beach and playground which the children (and adults) love!"

"I have two dogs myself and walk them all the time. I like they have side walks for my dogs to walk on but I don’t like that there isn’t a dog park anywhere around here. I feel they should add dog parks around here to make it better for dogs to get the excerise they need and want. "
